EXTREMELY Happy With My Red Suricata Sunshade!!
I am typing this review as I sit beneath the shade provided by our new sunshade and I am VERY pleased with this product. It's probably the best purchase I've made from Amazon in a while. In getting ready for our beach trip this week, I began looking last month for an alternative to the heavy and cumbersome metal-framed canopy we've used for years. I ran across this and others like it from competitive companies, read the reviews and decided to make the purchase. I could not be more pleased and I have driven my family nuts reminding them daily how happy I am with this purchase. For those who are concerned about setting this up (even by yourself), watch setup videos a couple of times and you'll have no issues. Here are the pros & cons as I see them: PROS: - VERY lightweight and easily packable solution to having a large sunshade for the beach. - Included accessories are great and much better than the competition. Four poles = a HUGE plus for providing plenty of shade for my family of four. And their height is just right for us (I'm 6'00" tall, BTW). The cinch cords help the shade stay in place and the pole anchors are nice to have (though we've had zero issues not using them so far). - Easily handles strong winds. We set this up the day after Tropical Storm Cristobal made landfall and had high residual winds still coming in. This sunshade performed flawlessly and we were about the only beach goers with a shade or umbrella that could hold up to the wind that day. - Easily sets up with just one person. It may take a couple of extra minutes solo, but I've had NO problems with it the last three mornings. - GREAT customer service and support!! I experienced this on a separate but related purchase directly from Red Suricata and I couldn't be happier with the level of support I received. Very helpful and quick to respond! CONS (sort of): - This is not a shelter from rain and it isn't promoted as such so it really isn't a negative aspect about the product. But as an FYI, don't think you won't get wet from the occasional shower that can hit at the beach while sitting beneath it. No biggie if you're prepared, though. A final recommendation after using it this week...I would suggest purchasing a small, folding shovel to carry in the sunshade bag. We have found it helpful to bury the sandbag anchors (at least those on the side facing the wind) for added stability. With a shovel, that takes only seconds to do and has probably made the difference in using this product in high winds.

3-Month Update and still - Outstanding!
Updated - 3 Month Review: We are still very happy with this product. Two items to point out: Wind: I've seen a number of review discuss how wind can be an issue and it can be, but a little of persistence and experience will prevail. On high wind days we've found that we need to really load-up the corner sand bags full, then with a partner, simultaneously prop up the windward side and DOUBLE wrap the top pole ties (you should be pulling the sand bags across the sand as you set the poles), set up the leeward side, then stretch the bags out so you have a slight bow out of the stakes. On heavy wind days we have had to wait for a break in the wind to set up the windward side as the shade tends to flap like a flag somewhat uncontrollably until you can get it taut. Once we have it taut we go back and add the stake sand anchors which really add to the stability. UV Blocking: This is a lightweight fabric and states a USF 50 protection rating. I am fair skinned and have to be carful not to burn; I do get tanned (not burned) under this shade. Where I usually wore SPF 30 with our opaque umbrella, I have switched to SPF 50 with this shade. ___________________ Our favored umbrella took a tumble down the beach and we've been eyeing this sunshade for some time as a suitable replacement. We couldn't be more please with the quality and functionality. It takes a little effort to set, well, more than an umbrella, but it's well worth the larger shaded space. Much lighter and easier than a traditional canopy and much cooler than beach tents which often need the walls put up to maintain the shaded area.

It has a leg or two up on pop-up type tents, but comes with its own issues
After 5 years of hauling a heavy pop-up tent to the beach, I decided to try out one of these types of canopies. I knew going in there would be some drawbacks...mainly wind resistance...but figured the trade-off of NOT hauling a 50 pound tent a quarter mile from condo to beach each day would be well worth it. By and large it's a yes on the trade-off. So much better as far as size and weight goes. This is the first year I haven't had to use a hitch tray AND a roof bag to get all my stuff there, which is a huge deal to me. The daily trudge to the beach was much better as well. Everything needed is included in the carry bag and I think I lost about 30+ pounds of gear from the haul. So, this tent wins big on the transportation front. The setup category would go to the pop-up though. Neither are particularly easy to set up alone, but I can set up a pop-up in well less than 5 minutes on the beach and that includes burying the legs and staking the canopy into the sand with lines on all 4 corners. This new tent, while not particularly difficult to set up, takes significantly longer and takes some finesse and forward thought to erect successfully. You have to unpack all the parts (fabric, 4 pole/legs, sand anchors, ties) and lay it out on the sand where it needs to be set up. Stretch the canopy out and position the anchor bags correctly. Fill the bags with as much sand as you can (don't skimp and think you can fill them halfway....FILL THEM UP or you'll be resetting the tent after a few hours), lay the poles out on each corner, position the poles correctly and tie them off, then raise each corner individually and reposition the sandbags to allow for the poles. Then you can screw down the anchors and put the poles inside. The anchors are optional, but they seem to add a little stability and definitely add a few inches of height to the canopy, which is a must for me. Overall, probably a 10-15 minute process if you're alone. Durability - this goes to the pop-up as well. I'm used to a windy beach and a pop-up with legs buried about 6" and canopy corners staked to the ground...I've never had an issue with the tent moving even during constant winds and minor storms. It's also easy enough to drop the canopy down a few notches and restake to weather short severe storms. These more portable tents are not gonna stand up to much in the wind department. The normal ocean breeze is OK, but over the course of the day things loosen up and the sandbags (regardless of how full they are) will move a little. Eventually this leads to enough play in the ropes and the whole thing will come down unless you're on guard and re-adjust as the day goes on. Annoying for sure, but still in the plus side as far as advantages go. One other issue I found with this particular tent is that the edge seams started to unravel the very first day it was used. I don't know if this will matter long term, but after a week of every day use, all 4 corners have started to have seams unravel. I probably cut a few feet of seam thread off of the corners over the week. Hopefully this won't matter, but will see. All-in-all I'm fairly happy with this. I wish there were a hybrid type tent that gave you the ease of setup and durability of a pop-up and the portability of these types, but for now, this will work.

Finally a beach trip I could enjoy!
So being the guy who is usually responsible for setting up all of the “beach stuff” before everyone actually goes out to start the day, I have finally found an answer to getting time to enjoy the beach myself. Years of hauling bulky and heavy “pop up tents” (that always break) always gave me trouble trying to set up and on top of that having to haul tent leg weights down to the beach to keep the tent from blowing away was always a pain as well. This summer I wanted to change up the dreaded beach setup routine. And change it I did. I found this product and although it looks a little too simple to be real sturdy, it held up perfectly and was the easiest setup I’ve ever done. The first day it took me 10-15 minutes to figure out the best way to set it up and remain sturdy, then from that day on it took me 5 minutes to set it up every day after. Breakdown is a breeze as well. The shade provided was perfect as it can fit 4-6 beach chairs easy. It also had its share of wind running through it. I wouldn’t recommend on a severely windy day, bit was impressed how Well it did with a good 15-20 mph ocean breeze. Since we had a large group I actually purchased 2 and we set them up sided by side. I had a whole bunch of people walk by and could here them say, “oh that’s a nice setup.” Yes it was... no more struggling with metal tent frames that ALWAYS bend and break. The tear down at the end of a tireing day was a snap! Just one word of advice, after several days of use check the plastic balls on the top of the aluminum support poles, as they are screwed on and can loosen, I had one fall off (luckily I found it in the sand) but tightening these every few days is not a bad idea. If you happen to lose the plastic balls the support pole will rip through your canopy fabric if you don’t realize it fell off. (Problem can also be solved with a drop of blue locktite). Thank you for the owner of the company reaching out to me personally to see how I enjoyed the product, it is truly a great idea and fabricated well.

Easy to Setup - Handles Wind Fine
This tent is extremely light weight and compact. Everything fits in an easy to carry bag. I used this tent everyday for a week for my family vacation. I would setup the tent early in the morning with a setup time around 5 to 10 minutes. We used the tent the whole day and would take it down close to sunset. Take down time is also around 5 to 10 minutes, but maybe less. Weather was typical beach weather with sunshine and wind. The wind ranged from little to none to some pretty strong gusts. I included a video of the tent during some of the more intense wind and also a picture from our condo showing it holding up. The tent never gave any signs of beginning to fall down or be blown over. For the reviews that said the tent could not handle the wind, the only thing I can figure is that they did not set the tent up correctly. As long as you put enough sand in the sandbags, it is impossible for this tent to blow down. The worst that could happen is the canvas slip off the poles (which never happened to me), and there are straps that hold the tent to the poles to ensure it does not slip off. As far as size, it is a good size for a small family. We could fit three adults in chairs and a couple of kids, but that is probably the limit. The price is a little high, but for a high quality beach tent, it is actually reasonable. There were also several other tents like this on the beach and we never saw them have any trouble. We are going to use the tent again next week.

Makes Metal Framed Canopies OBSOLETE !!!
I drive on the beach 3 - 4 days a week & was considering a metal framed canopy & decided to give this product a try... OMG !!! I am soooooo glad I did... This canopy makes beach umbrellas & metal framed canopies totally obsolete... It's lightweight, takes up no space with its nifty storage bag, EASY to put up (under five minutes), & provides enough shade for probably 4 - 6 beach chairs... I love it & will be buying another one... I also love that the color coordinates so well with my Jeep (LOL)... I always have a shovel with me because I drive on the beach - so filling the bags & burying them (only if needed) is a snap... a couple quick shovelfuls in each bag & you're ready to insert the poles & relax... BTW, I think I read some negative comments about the poles - these aluminum poles are VERY sturdy & I'm sure will give years of service... If someone "snapped" one the first time they used it they had to be jumping on it !!! Great product - will buy again !!! (Oh wait before you go.... I did want to add, this canopy stretched out & set-up uses considerable real estate - so if you're on a super crowded beach you need to get there early to stake your claim - otherwise, this would NOT work on those beaches where you can barely walk between the blankets & towels to get to the water...) I've attached photos with a two pole configuration, perfect for when the sun is lower in the sky... and also with a four pole configuration...)

Fantastic product
This canopy probably saved my vacation. A couple of weeks before our beach trip (my wife and I, and our toddler son) our existing sunshade broke (one of those standard tailgating canopies), and I'm so glad it did. I went searching for a better idea, and found this canopy - it is so easy to put up and take down (on my own, while my wife looked after the little guy), it stood up to some pretty strong breezes without any movement, it looked great (we got the turquoise one), it kept us shady, it packed away to a small bag. What more could you ask for? Every day on the beach we had new person asking about the canopy and taking pictures of the brand-name so they could get one themselves. We saw a couple of other people on the beach with similar canopies, but i think this one is better because: - it looked better. The other ones seemed to have a more plasticy material; - it comes with 4 poles rather than 2. And even though we mostly used it with 2 poles so we could angle it against the sun, it was handy having the option (and we've even used it in our backyard where you need the 4 poles); - the bag it packed into was really roomy while being small, so there was none of that annoying effort to cram it back into the space it came from. I don't think I've ever been as happy with an Amazon purchase as this one, and I heartily recommend.

Great lightweight way to keep everyone in the shade at the beach - 4 poles makes the whole family fit
Great product. The shade provided was big enough to fit 6 adults in chairs and a few kids playing in the sand - all within the shaded area, whether in the morning or middle of the afternoon. This is so much lighter and easier to bring to the beach than other large shade canopies. Set up was very easy. I could do it alone with no problem - simply fill the sand bags, stretch it out, then place the poles in the corner. Having 4 poles was great - only using 2 poles would have allowed the covering to move in the wind more, which would have reduced space for sitting comfortably. It held up without any problem in the wind, while one of our cheap beach umbrellas kept blowing away. We used it every day, almost all day long, for a week on the beach and it looks like it will last several more beach trips without a problem. There were only a few minor drawbacks. I wish it were taller, but this is about as tall as any similar products available. The material does allow some sun through - enough that you can still see shadows - so it limits, but does not block, the sun exposure. The balls on the poles are rather small and cause a lot of stretch in the material at the points where the poles are placed. It didn't seem to be in danger of tearing, but I still may place a foam ball or tennis ball over the plastic ball to help spread the pressure.

Ottimo prodotto!
