If you have old VHS tapes sitting around collecting dust, I would highly recommend getting them transferred sooner rather than later. Tapes do not last forever. They deteriorate over time, they can get sticky, they can jam your machine, and worst case, they can ruin your VCR heads. The earlier you transfer them, the better chance you have of preserving those memories without issues. Originally, I thought about getting one of those basic video capture devices that connects to a computer. But honestly, this unit is so much better. The fact that you can actually see what you are recording on the screen while it is happening makes a huge difference. It gives you peace of mind that everything is working correctly and nothing is cutting out halfway through. One thing to note is that it does not have built in storage. You will need your own USB drive or TF card to save your recordings. That is not a deal breaker for me, just something to be aware of. It does have HDMI out, so you can connect it to a modern TV and preview everything easily. I also love that it supports multiple inputs. You get standard RCA connections for most VHS, Betamax, or camcorders, and it even includes S Video input for higher end players, which gives better quality. It also comes with the cables, power adapter, and even a remote, which is refreshing since a lot of products these days skip the power block. It records in 1080p, which is more than enough. VHS quality is nowhere near 1080p anyway, so you are basically capturing the maximum possible quality from the source. For anyone serious about preserving old family memories without needing a computer setup, this is a super convenient and easy solution. I am excited to start transferring a whole stack of old tapes and finally get them backed up safely.

For Years I have been looking for a way to transfer my videos that would not cost me an arm and a leg to get done. And so far, the Portta Digital Converter has done a great job at transferring. I tested one Video I converted years ago I did through a computer connection and the Portta copy came out much clearer. It looked just like had taken the video yesterday. I also like the way how it is designed and how easy it is to operate. The sound quality is also pretty good. Plus, you won't have to worry about battery life and it's not too big and comes with most of the cables you need to power it up. The Portta VHS to Digital Converter is an Excellent buy for the price. I forgot to mention it come with a remote.

🌟🌟THIS! THIS is what you need if you want the simplest way to convert your family memories on vhs, dvc or any other video media that uses RCA/component jacks. I've been fighting other converter products for mounts to pair with computer, get audio perfectly matched and clear, but this.... WOW! YES, it's a bit expensive, relative to the inferior converters on Amazon, but it's an all- in- one converter and will save your hair from being pulled out trying to figure out all of these other, cheaper products. No computer and no tv needed. It also maintained the aspect ratio of the original 4:3 and its stretched out when playing in vlc. On the 40" tv, it looks just as clear as the original dvc playing on the same screen. Such a life saver. One touch record to mp4. Quickly saves (about 4 seconds), so easy to create individual files between crop/ different segments of same tape. I did a test of a single sort video before getting in for the long haul and the audio and video is super crisp. LOVE IT!! Buy it!! If you have a lot of tapes to convert, you'll definitely not regret it.

This is a fantastic little digitizer. I have spent at least 18 hours using it and it does very well. I have digitized both VHS and Hi8 using the S-video line. The playback quality is really good, there is no issue with videos with a lot of motion getting blurry like I had with my older computer based digitizer. Keep in mind this does not upscale but it does give you options to change sample rate and resolution of the capture of the device itself which is very nice....there is no degrading between the media on tape to the digitized media which is great. The only issue I have ran into is that some old VHS tapes would have a space that would have data rot and the digitizer would try to sense if the media was NTSC or PAL at that moment and stop recording....this only happened a few times but wasn't a problem since I was monitoring recordings the whole time. Some other great things about this digitizer is that it has a great little internal monitor screen with speaker so you can use this box alone with the VCR or Camcorder or you have the option to plug it into HDMI and actually watch it on a tv while you digitize. I put a 512GB TF card in mine but found it was best to transfer data off TF card after every tape to not get confused of data on card...i don't believe you can rename files on device itself so can get messy with lots of tapes digitized. Each VHS tape is around 10GB of data so you can use a much smaller TF card than what I bought. Overall, I am extremely pleased with this digiter for the money and its very simple to setup and use. Your results may vary based on your VHS data or the VCR you use but my results with S-Video has been very pleasing.

Great little device. Easy to use. Was able to transfer several VHS tapes to USB and there’s a nice feature that you push the photo button while the video is playing and it will save a photo. The menu will allow you to playback the video and there’s a separate place on the menu to view the photos. Would highly recommend this product. You can view these videos on your iPhone or iPad with a usb adapter or on a computer. I have tried the tv, but being an older model I was only allowed to view the photos. It would not allow video viewing. I think the newer tvs would allow the video part of the usb to be viewed.

was cautiously optimistic based on the reviews and i could not be happier now that i’ve used it! this thing works so well! in the past i used converters that connected to a computer and you had to use software to capture the video which worked ok but id get distortions in the picture sometimes. But with this product the picture is stable 99% of the time and it’s so easy to use! also, it automatically detects if the video source is PAL or NTSC which i didn’t think to check so am very happy it does that straight out of the box. one thing to keep in mind is you have to connect a usb storage device for the files to get saved to and they recommend only flash drives and not external HDD or SSD unless those have their own power supplies. the device is not made to provide power to such drives so using those may have negative effects on the video capture such as lagging and file corruption

I am very glad I ordered this Portta unit. It does exactly what they advertise it does--and with excellent quality. The mini screen is a big plus and the menus very easy to navigate, whether through the mini screen or the TV screen. The quality of the digital version of the analog tape content is exactly the same as that from the original; there is no degradation whatsoever. I found out that by choosing the highest recording resolution (1920 x 1080) the quality of the video remains the same, however, the aspect ratio becomes 16:9. Of course you can change the viewing aspect ratio on the TV, but the video quality remains the same as the original. I chose 640 x 480 for the recording resolution and the 4:3 aspect ratio was preserved with video quality the same as the original. The playback function is very straightforward to use with the remote control if you choose to play your files with it. Overall, the quality of this unit is excellent for the very affordable price you pay for it. I highly recommend it. Willie from NM

It is very good device. I recorded 5 old DV cassette. Then I had a problem with my old camera . Then I fixed my camera. It is working now. The manual is difficult to read . It needs much better explanation as I spent one day to make porta to work again after fixing my camera .
