Yes, the iTalkie will work even the phone is falling asleep. Actually, it 's the iTalkieDaemon app who keeps receiving and handling the bluetooth signal from the iTalkie device even the phone is sleeping. So you need to install the iTalkieDaemon app to use the iTalkie.And once installed, you need not open the application every time because it has a background service keeps running. Is it compatible with a Verizon, Kyocera (Android)cell phone?

Works on android phones but you need to download a driver program. Links with Zello well

User replacable battery?

It's not that easy but you can replace it with some effort, it is a 3.7v li-pon battery with a dimension 6x34x50(mm). Which can be easily found in any electronics stores. In fact you can use any 3.7v li-pon battery as its dimension not exceed 6x34x50(mm) too much. Hope it helps.
