In 1959, Jean Craighead George published My Side of the Mountain . This coming-of-age story about a boy and his falcon went on to win a Newbery Honor, and for the past forty years has enthralled and entertained generations of would-be Sam Gribleys. The two books that followed-- On the Far Side of the Mountain and Frightful's Mountain --were equally extraordinary. Now all three books are available in one deluxe yet affordable volume for veteran devotees and brand-new fans alike. Review: Great collection in a single hard-bound volume. - If you've never read these stories as a child I suggest you do now, and pass them on to your children. These stories are about a young boy who lives alone in the wilderness and survives the forces of nature and its perils. These stories are true classics and if they aren't having your kids read these books in school then I do 100% suggest you do them a favor and buy this for them. I read these in elementary school 30 years ago and loved them. And I bought this volume to share with my young boy who also loved these stories even though he was born in the generation where screens have replaced books. Whether you want to give your children some good, wholesome, and enjoyable literature to read or just want to enjoy these old classics yourself, I promise you will not be disappointed. These stories are true treasures. Get this while it's still in print! Review: Great nostalgia read - I read these as a boy in Iowa, after living in and around the Catskill now for over 30 years it was a great read again especially knowing the area. I would recommend it as a great gift to any young ones.

Woo Hoo! GREAT book for boys beginning to read
I am terribly excited by this because I was home one day with the 8 year old and I had gotten him this (because it was one of my favorite books from my childhood, and the only one with a male hero) so we started to read it together but put it away for a while. Well... after he was finished having Harry Potter read to him (the series) and his mom was trying to get him to read some things independently she walks into his room one day and he was about three chapters into the book! So he read the WHOLE thing - the first book he read on his own!! One of the cuter parts was that as he was reading it he kept trying to get his mom to use the recipes in the book :) (that, and he kept referring to the book as "the trilogy".) Really a great book to have around for when a boy is ready to read. PS. not that it isn't also a good book for girls, but there are many other good books out there written with young female heroines for that age range (I would recommend the Westing Game and The mixed up files of Mrs. Basil E Frankweiler) whereas there is a very limited selection of books that are interesting and well written with young male heros.

Great book
The first book was great so I got this to reread it after several years, however, the second and third parts were not as good. Understandably it is not the products fault, just my taste.

The outdoors comes alive for young kids
When I was just starting high school (early 1970s) the first book of this trilogy was in the school’s library. I checked it out and found a story that had me living off the land in the wilderness. I probably read that book once a year through high school. I forgot about this book for almost 50 years until someone in a group on Facebook mentioned it. Everything about the book came flooding back to me as I read that post. I searched Amazon and found the book and was extremely intrigued that Jean Craighead George had written two sequels and it was readily available. I gave my grandson the trilogy for Christmas and he is already through the first book. I can’t wait to read the rest of this wonderful story.

Read this to your kids!
Wondering how to get your kids to bed without a fight? Read these kinds of classics, even if they are too young to understand the storyline. Just keep reading until they are asleep. My dad would spend an hour reading us kids book that we liked and then to put us to sleep, he read us books like Treasure Island, Moby Dick, Great Expectations, Harry Potter, A Tale of Two Cities, the Borrowers, My Side of the Mountain, The Federalist Papers...best memories. Thanks, Dad. I love you.

I read My Side of the Mountain when I was in grade 4. It was my absolute favourite. Now, I’m reading it with my Son. It still is an incredible book, even after all those years. I believe it would be a great book for elementary students. Probably best suited for grades 3-7. But my Son, who's in grade 1, loves it and reads it himself, with some explanation of words. We try to get as many books from the Library that we can since my Son loves reading. But, these are treasures and keepers. I never read the 2 follow up books of The Far Side of the Mountain & Frightful’s Mountain. To have them altogether is great. I agree with some of the others reviews that 3 separate books would have been nicer - it's not a deal breaker for me though. I thought that only boys would like this book. But in the last 2, the main character's younger sister joins him living in the wild. Therefore, it appeals to both boys and girls. These are classics and this set is a steal.

Print is genuine, so 5 star.
Brought the book as a gift to my niece. Haven't actually read the book but 5 star rating is for the book quality which is suoerb and printed in USA. I was little worried of genuineness of the print but when cloudtail is the seller no doubt about it. All the 3 books under trilogy comes in a single hardcover book combined. My suggestion would be to go to goodreads for the content review.

..
The 1st book is a classic, just as I remember it- the 2nd & 3rd books get a bit preachy about saving birds of prey
