what size are the holes?

Needed standard screws to drill into posr, there is a hole in the hinge about halrf an inch diameter I put. A bolt in and cut it.

What fixings are recommended?

It all depends on what you are fixing them too. I fitted mine to a strong wooden gate frame and used bolt head, heavy duty screw thread fixers. The diameter and length depends on the hinge size and what you are screwing them too
