In this pioneering, practical book for parents, neuroscientist Daniel J. Siegel and parenting expert Tina Payne Bryson explain the new science of how a child's brain is wired and how it matures. Different parts of a child's brain develop at different speeds and understanding these differences can help you turn any outburst, argument, or fear into a chance to integrate your child's brain and raise calmer, happier children. Featuring clear explanations, age-appropriate strategies and illustrations that will help you explain these concepts to your child, The Whole-Brain Child will help your children to lead balanced, meaningful, and connected lives using twelve key strategies, including: Name It to Tame It: Corral raging right-brain behavior through left-brain storytelling, appealing to the left brain's affinity for words and reasoning to calm emotional storms and bodily tension. Engage, Don't Enrage: Keep your child thinking and listening, instead of purely reacting. Move It or Lose It: Use physical activities to shift your child's emotional state. Let the Clouds of Emotion Roll By: Guide your children when they are stuck on a negative emotion, and help them understand that feelings come and go. SIFT: Help children pay attention to the Sensations, Images, Feelings, and Thoughts within them so that they can make better decisions and be more flexible. Connect Through Conflict: Use discord to encourage empathy and greater social success. Review: Excellent - Excellent Review: Useful - Useful

Excellent book to understand brain development
I purchased this book to understand the brain development and how children think. But, this book goes beyond that. I could also relate to emotions of adults as well. This gives a clear picture of what right, left brain does, what is upstairs and downstairs brain, about implicit and explicit memories. This gives a fresh perspective. The strategies discussed in the book are presented with day to day issues we face with children and how to tackle. The best part is nothing discussed would need disciplined effort to bring it to practice. Very simple strategies and very easy to implement with change of perspective in how we handle issues of children. And I could also relate to my thoughts and feelings. Amazingly good. Definitely worth the read.

Best book to read
One of the best book to read. It is research based and practical book and written in very easy language. It gives a very good and practical solution about many problems and good for parents also. Also one cannot master this in one reading but a regular reading and practice can make best out of you. You can use this book for a very long time for the development of your children and can easily adjust the given example in the books according to Indian context. In my opinion some parts or topics of the books should be taught in schools also.

Technical but a extremely Delicate view of Parenting
Really Interesting - the book shows a technical view of the brain and its function, full of daily basis examples and at the end has a short summary that can be used during life.
