Teaching American English Pronunciation (Oxford Handbooks for Language Teachers Series)

I teach ESL and also accent reduction on-line. I would highly recommend this book to teachers working with English learners. The authors have included topics ranging from individual sounds, word stress, connected speech, teaching tips, and specific language group challenges. Organized, easy to use, and very helpful.

I am an ESL teacher/tutor and I borrowed this book from the library just to peruse it. It ended up having such a wide variety of useful information that I decided to purchase it. Especially interesting is the section on pronunciation issues specific to common native languages of ELL's. Highly recommend this book as a resource for anyone interested in teaching or learning American English.

This book only discusses each issue briefly, but it covers extensive topics and you will find it especially helpful if you are teaching English to L1 Cantonese or Vietnamese speakers.

This is book arrived on the time promised. It is used, underlined and with written comments; but I am fine with them.

This book helped me create goals for my accent modification client as a speech pathologist. It gave some ideas of what to work on based on clients primary language.

An extremely detailed instruction manual for teaching American English to speakers of other languages. This was required reading for one of M.Ed classes (major in ESL education), and it is highly recommended for all ESL teachers.

This book will be on hand as a reference when I teach my ESL students. It's clearly written, has helpful drawings and charts, and practice exercises at the end of each chapter.

As a tertiary-level EFL lecturer in Austria, I highly recommend this text for teaching pronunciation! The text gives a great background of basic knowledge for phonetics and offers great tips on teaching pronunciation. A must-have for the (American) English language teacher!

確かに良書ですが、音声学のマニアックな用語も出てくるために調べながら読むのが面倒なので星4。マニアックすぎて紙媒体の辞書に掲載されておらず、ネットで調べることもあります。和書の方が手っ取り早いかも。 使用されている発音記号がなじみがないものを使用しているため慣れが必要です。 例→フラップtを[D]で表現する。heの発音記号が[hiy]など。 CDが付属されていませんが個人的に支障はありません。 1冊ですべて網羅されている（と思う）ため調べやすいです。 各国の言語と英語の発音の違い（日本人はthが弱い、等）も説明されています。

Rely on this alot. The exercises are helpful as well.

Useful information, especially for the cultural group differences Had hoped there would be more activities that I could use in classes. Grateful for the theory that I have adapted for each class.
