The one star reviews do not make any sense. I bought mine 2 years ago June 1. I have used it on a high speed, super pull, 70 lbs. Husky apparently powered by Dilithium Crystals!! I have the Giant Large 26 foot. It still functions very well. ( Sometimes it does make an odd clicking) The coil rewinds as rapidly now as it did when purchased. The lock is solid and still holds. The leash is cloth people... if the dog chews it, or it gets caught on something sharp it will cut. (Duh!). It is also fairly easily repaired with simple stitching or tape ( may not retract all the way after tape!). It's beaten and worn, but 2 years of abuse and it still functions, that is pretty good quality! I am ordering another for use with our St Bernard Pup (Currently about 100 lbs).

My best friend brought her German Shepherd up again for a visit. I wanted to be able to walk him more easily and safely than by using the standard leashes that she brought with her. For the record, he is 16 months old and weighs about 95 pounds. He has had basic professional training and was doing great, but has become reactive to some things, and is hard to control outside in the yard sometimes. This leash is one I knew I could trust. The length is great and is easy to control with the brake system. The brake system is easy to control and operate and to lock into place (and to unlock as well). The tape is reflective, but it’s difficult to see that in my photo provided as I wasn’t able to use my flashlight and take a picture at the same time. The picture is just with the camera’s flash; plus, my outside floodlights had come on. It doesn’t tangle up, although it looks like it’s going to. Yes, it is slightly heavy for some to carry around, but it doesn't bother me. I felt it was comfortable in my hand and mostly easy to grip onto. It just works! It comes with a safety loop that incorporates into the harness/collar D-Ring, but I am not really sure how this really works or helps. I included a close-up of the instructions on the safety loop. I have not tried it yet. It is pricier than many leashes, but worth it. It’s made in Germany, and that is a plus to me. It is Ryker Der Hauswolf approved and I recommend it.

I bought a second one; they're that good. Solid quality. Bright yellow tape and strong. Of course you can use it as a 5 ft. leash or when appropriate let your dog wander while still being in control.

I have a couple Labradoodle puppies that are going through training, in walking AND in play. So I picked this up for them to give me a combination of control with them and freedom should I want to give it. If you've used Flexi, you know how good they are. If not, let me just preface by saying: the locks are great with minimal "accidental" engagements or disengagements, it is intuitive to use, it is well-built and holds up (so long as you keep the doggies from making them chew toys). However, new or old to Flexi, there are a few things you should know about this.....specifically: It's bigger and heavier....noticeably. Not anything that hinders me, but for some it may be an issue. The retraction spring is beefier. While you never really want to let a Flexi leash "just come back"; it's especially crucial here. I could see legitimate injury coming from letting it whip back. The bottom and top of the leash has the storage wheel for the leash exposed. This means the wheel can make contact with skin if you aren't careful and can possibly give you friction burns. None of these have really come into play with me, but I do feel they are worth mentioning as this is a slightly different beast from traditional Flexi leashes. However, in spite of these things, this leash is a remarkable tool of excellent build quality, smooth mechanics, and insightful design. I've used Flexi a long time and I will continue to use them so long as their quality holds. There are a dozen retractable leash brands......Flexi remains the best I've used and the Giant is no exception.

This is a great leash for active medium to large size dogs. We use a bungee type extension on the end to minimize arm and shoulder stress with active and pulling dogs. This is our third 26' Flexi leash. They do wear out mostly because they get sand dirt and moisture inside. The weakest point is the spring hook for attaching to you dog's harness or to the bungee extension. If this gets dirt or sand in it, it will stay in an open position and the leash will get unattached. See photo. I am going to tape over this on our new one to keep it clean at the beach - since we use the bungee's spring hook to attach to the dog harness, this part can be taped shut long term. Good luck...

So far so good!. This scene appears to be really well-made and sturdy and I’m hoping I get along use out of it. It’s actually been a godsend for walking my dog if she loves to sniff everything and wander all over the place and this allows her the freedom to do that while still being under control. The lock mechanism works wonders to move her in whatever direction I want her to go and just gives her a gentle little tap when I let go of it. I’d highly recommend this retractable leash. It’s excellent!

This is the most awesome retractable leash we’ve had! Sturdy, and is definitely visible at night.

It is such an expensive product, and spoilt so fast

Tried other brands and Flexi is by far superior. Handle is slightly larger than the flexi i bought last year, now i can fit 4 fingers instead of 3. I prefer the tape over rope as it seems more durable. This has a reflective label on both sides that really stands out at night when cars go by. I prefer the braking system on flexi as it is a smooth flat button you depress to stop the tape (momentary). When you let go of the button it releases the tape. There is a recessed lock switch inside the button. Sliding this switch locks/unlocks the brake. This makes one thumb operation effortless. Bought the optional flexi poop bag holder that slides into a groove under the handle. It fits good and dispenses bags easily. Would recommend. We have 4 dogs and about 6 flexi's of various ages. Others are cheaper, but wont use any other brands but flexi. Had one tape chewed about 2ft from the end. Carefully, using a chisel and a screwdriver, I pryed open the flexi, (they use about 5 or 6 metal pins that are pressed into holes in the plastic shells) cut off the chewed part, put the tape thru the snap and sewed it together on a sewing machine using zigzag. Rewound the spring and squeezed it back together.(lining up the pins and squeeze in a vise) Good as new (except for the chisel marks) and it is shorter now. Will buy again.
