Yes, Steve, I think that it would definitely help. Depending on the type and power of your sub, I think you should consider placing your sub on the stand so that the woofer is up top and the vent tube is on the bottom. I would also suggest that you set your crossover to 100hz so that the majority of the bass is handled by your front and surround speakers. That will take a lot of the rumbling and vibrations out of your deepest notes. I did some tinkering and found that this configuration works best in my apartment even with the thin walls I have. I am also on the second floor, so I have to consider my downstairs neighbor as well. I placed my sub in a corner about 12 inches from the wall on the diagonal. I have Bose front speakers and a JBL 12" 300W powered sub. The front speakers carry the bulk of the bass above 100hz and the sub handles the rest. What I hope you will notice is that your bass is much deeper and seamless. The placement of the woofer in the upright position gets the bass "up in the air" so to speak. You will notice the difference immediately. Hope this helps.
