I’ve been using the Safety 1st Flat Step Gates since 2023. I baught one gate first and tried downstairs and then baught another one for upstairs for my hyper active older child and now again for my second baby, and they have been absolutely reliable. It gave me real peace of mind during the crawling and toddler stages and has continued to do their job perfectly. The flat step design is one of the best features. It’s much safer to walk through than gates with raised bars, especially when carrying a baby or going up and down the stairs. The gates feel very sturdy once fitted and hasn’t loosened over time, even with daily use and toddlers pushing against it. I really appreciate that it’s pressure-fit, so no drilling was needed. I had to buy extention for both gates as our stairs are bit wider, and it was easy to find the extentions for these gates too.Installation was straightforward, and the locking mechanism is secure but still easy for adults to open one-handed. The gate has held up very well over the years and still looks and works like new.

We already had a gate at the bottom of the stairs but needed one at the top with a flat bar across the bottom to avoid tripping, as our little one has started to crawl. The gate at the bottom is a Munchkin Lindam one, and I initially looked at buying their version for the top of the stairs (with flat bar) but after reading numerous reviews about how difficult it was to install and how the wall cups were different, I decided to go for this one and we wanted to screw the cups on to the wall, rather than using sticky pads as it's more secure and the pads can take paint and plaster off when removed. We got a "used" one from Amazon as it was about £15 cheaper (minus the extender), it initially said the box had been damaged/opened but there were clear signs of use although these were mostly only minor cosmetic like a few scuffs. The cable tie to stop the gate flapping about when you install it had also been removed so I had to use duct tape to secure it while we were putting it up. The cups came with the adhesive pads attached where somebody had obviously stuck them on before sending it back. This wasn't a problem for us as we wanted to screw it on anyway and the pads came off easily but all of this is probably worth noting if you see a cheaper one on Amazon which says only the box has been damaged... It was relatively easy to install although the bottom cups were a bit trickier to screw in because of our skirting board and the configuration at the top of our stairs (one side has square skirting that's even all the way around and the other side is tapered), that also meant that we couldn't get the bar 100% straight at the bottom as it would come over the top step but it is very secure. I don't know why manufacturers don't take the size and shape of skirting boards into account when they produce these gates, although that's possibly because they are not solely made for the UK market. Easy to adjust once up and I like the system with the washers and gaskets which are attached to the top and make it easy to adjust to fit in the wall cups. The gate is really sturdy now it's up and the locking mechanism seems very secure. I like the feature that shows a red/green indicator on the lock to show that it's properly in position or not. I can lift and open/close with my right hand easily enough but little hands probably won't be able to open it, which is obviously a good thing!

OK so as is not completely uncommon I bought this to use more as a dog gate rather then a baby gate. However as the average American Cocker Spaniel is probably about as bright as the average toddler and equally adept at getting in to places they shouldn't. So to start out of the box, this gate is great for areas like doorways and top or bottom of the stairs between a wall and newel post. As indicated when unpacked and tape removed the gate does spread open at the top and it is the act of fitting in to the intended gap and tightening it up which closes the gap up at the top and ensures the locking closure is secure. The opening and closing mechanism is easy to use and secure when closed. To open, pull the top of the handle and towards the centre of the gate and lift up. To close, push the handle back down and the latch locks in place. The opening and closing of the gate is smooth and I think sufficiently wide to use easily. The flat step bottom is excellent and a great feature on this gate, it definitely minimises the trip hazard and so far I have had no mishaps despite it being used almost constantly. Now just to add, I did purchase a couple of extras. Firstly I bought one 14cm extension piece as I wanted to also use this across the width of a hallway, really easy to install on the gate, just pop out the the bits which screw against the wall on one side, pop in the extension and then pop bits which screw against the wall in to the extension (note you need to pop out the plastic sleeve which the side screws sit in and not just the screws themselves. No tools required. Secondly I ordered a set of safety gate wall nanny protectors, which have a flat rubber surface to go against the wall and a recess on the other side for the round wall screw bits to slot into. Really please and everythings works really well, also I have now used it in various places such as doorways without the extension piece, so very versatile and easy to switch between different sized gaps with or without the extension piece.

Muy contento con esta barrera de seguridad. La instalé sin necesidad de taladrar y el sistema de fijación a presión es firme y da mucha confianza. Se nota bien construida y estable. El diseño ultraplano es un punto a favor, ya que no molesta al pasar y reduce el riesgo de tropiezos. Genial también para el robot de limpieza. La apertura con una sola mano funciona muy bien, algo fundamental cuando vas cargado o con prisas. Además, el acabado es discreto y encaja bien en casa. En resumen, cumple perfectamente su función, es fácil de montar y ofrece muy buena seguridad. Una compra muy recomendable si tienes niños pequeños o mascotas.

Aus sicherheitstechnischen Gründen haben wir uns für ein Schutzgitter entschieden. Da wir in einer Mietwohnung leben fiel eine mit Schrauben fix montierte Sicherung weg. Die Entscheidung ist relativ schnell auf das Schutzgitter gefallen, da wir öfters am Tag den Weg benutzen und es keine Bodenschwelle hat. Es ist von der Breite her variabel was uns enorm geholfen hat, da wir eher schmale Türrahmen haben. Das Paket kam innerhalb der angegebenen Zeit an. Es war in keinem separaten Karton verpackt, war aber trotzdem ohne jegliche Beschädigungen. Einmal aus dem Karton war es dann relativ schnell in dem Türrahmen verkeilt. Man musste lediglich die Aufsätze der Verspreitzungen aufschrauben, das Gitter in den Türrahmen hinein stellen und die Verspreitzungen soweit ausfahren/hinaus schrauben das es fest im Türrahmen sitzt. Zur Öffnung ist zu sagen das es ja etwas schwergängiger sein muss, damit Kinder es nicht öffnen können. Man muss hier einfach nur den Sicherungsbügel nach hinten zeihen und den Bügel als ganzes nach oben heben und etwas zurück ziehen. Nach 1-2 Mal hat man das ganz schnell heraußen. Das es hier keine Schwelle gibt über welche man steigen muss, sondern einfach durch die geöffnete Türe gehen kann ist das Beste an dem Gitter. Bekannte sind schon des Öfteren über die Schwelle ihres Gitters gestolpert. Bei uns ist das kein Problem mehr und man muss nicht extra auf das achten. Es ist auch genau so schnell wieder entfernt und kann an einem anderen Türrahmen befestigt werden. Man muss nur die angegebenen Maße der Passung beachten. Wir sind sehr zu Frieden mit dem Kauf und würden uns wieder für eine Klemmvariante ohne Überstiegsschwelle entscheiden.

Tellement pratique et sécurisant. Facile à installer (pas de trou a faire, la barrière tient par pression), réglage facile aussi (attention à bien mesurer). Jai acheté les extensions et c'est parfait. La poignée est très pratique pour les adultes mais impossible à relever pour mon fils donc c'est parfait. Possibilité de l'ouvrir dans les deux sens ou un seul au choix. Vraiment satisfaite de mon achat
