Wrights Traditional Soap with Coal Tar Fragrance 125g pack of 4

My mum introduced me to Wright’s Soap years ago, and it’s been my favourite ever since. It has such a lovely, distinctive smell and leaves my skin feeling clean and fresh. For the price, it’s fantastic value — good quality without spending a lot. A real classic that never disappoints!

This well known soap with its characteristic fragrance which brings back memories for many people used to be manufactured using genuine coal tar but due to a change in regulations only the fragrance remains. The soap does not create foam when used and gives a deep clean leaving the classic fragrance on your skin which wears off after about an hour. Original pre regulation soap bars with real coal tar often turn up for sale on websites such as eBay and are characterised by having a darker colour and stronger fragrance, these also weigh more than the latest soap bars but there is no difference in their cleansing power.

I’ve been using this for just over a month now, and I absolutely LOVE it. I had stopped using soaps years ago because I found they were too drying, and made my skin feel uncomfortable. But this soap is wonderful. I’ve always loved the smell of coal tar soap, ever since I was young, so this brought back memories. In my opinion it’s not overpowering, although if you’re not used to it, it might seem a little strong at first. But I personally love the smell when I walk into the bathroom. As for my skin, it’s never felt or looked better. This soap has even reduced and in many cases completely got rid of annoying skin tags and blemishes, which I thought I’d be stuck with forever. After a shower my skin feels immediately squeaky clean, which then softens and feels so smooth and lovely, almost as though I’ve used a moisturiser. I have no hesitation in saying that this is the best soap I’ve ever used, and I will make sure I never run out that’s for sure. It lathers up wonderfully on my exfoliating shower towel, and I’m still only half way through one bar after a month of daily use. Totally brilliant.

Not a good smell but not a bad either, it's certainly distinct, a little bit musky in it's own way. It seems to be a soap that I find a bit overpowering. I think Id've liked it allot more if the scent blended with my cosmetics a bit more. It strikes me as a great soap, with a scent that's not quite for me. Not a fan of coal tar, aha. I keep thinking I smell like I'm from the 1920's or something.

No idea why its so hard to find in shops? Strong smell, but a familiar one for me, and I always have a bar of this by the basin.

Best face wash ever I have been fighting acne for a very long time this has transformed my skin It takes abit for the skin to adjust to this type of cleanser but stick with it It leaves my skin clean, moist & almost conditioned.

Just live coal tar soap 🧼 🙄

I don’t know what it is about this soap. It has a pungent, strong, smell—but I love it. It evokes a nostalgia from a time that was not mine. I imagine an angry grandma washing children who mischievously went to play in the pig pin when they were told not to. Other than that: it just works. I have sensitive skin, and my arms have some of that “chicken skin” thing going on; it has never been as clear as when using this soap. Now, the fact it did that for me, might not mean the same for you. The bar is quite hard and long lasting. It does not feel like other bars that stay soft and wastes away after 4 uses. It ladders you really well with my water in southwest Georgia. You might hate it, you might love it—it is one of those.
