In this follow up to his most famous book, An Actor Prepares, Stanislavski develop his influential 'system' of acting by exploring the imaginative processes at the heart of the actor's craft. Building a Character deals with the physical realisation of character on the stage through such tools as expressions, movement and speech. It is a book in which every theory is inextricably bound up with practice - a perfect handbook to the physical art of acting. The work of Stanislavski has inspired generations of actors and trainers and - available now in the Bloomsbury Revelations series to mark the 150th anniversary of Stanislavski's birth - it remains an essential read for actors and directors at all stages of their careers. Review: Every actor's guide - It is just so weird how this book touches a lot of parts where every actor at some point struggles. This book I feel should be made a 'must read' for every aspiring actor out there. And also it's other parts. Review: Bible for Actors - Being a student of Barry John, I loved this book to the core, so many questions I had in mind and this book has answered them all.

Great material
Covers precisely the aspects of character building. Though many aspects cannot be learned, only it can be improvised through sequential practice.

Basics of acting, by the master
This second of three basic works by Konstantin Stanislavski, helps provide the student today with fundamentals in "approaching a part", "building a character", and "creating a role". These ABCs of how to formulate and act a role in drama are absolutely essential knowledge for anybody wishing to embark on the profession of stage acting, or anyone involved in this work, at whatever level of skill and experience.

Like An Actor Prepares, but more technical
Like the first of the trilogy, "An Actor Prepares", "Building a Character" is really illuminating (Less than the first on the "mind" side of the actor-character, 'cause you've studied it with the first book), but has chapters with technical elements (Voice, body movement and exercise for this). Anyway, it's a small thing in the ILLUMINATION that gives... :)
