Awesome tool for the exercise in our dog equation
We are the proud new owners of an adult (approx. 6 - 7 year old) labradoodle that we adopted a couple weeks ago from an animal shelter. As first time dog owners, we've been reading materials about how to make this transition successful, and stumbled across Cesar Milan. We've been following his formula to successful dog ownership, exercise - rules / limitations - and affection. Our dog is high energy, and during our first week even though he was walking 4 miles a day and running two miles on top of that, he wasn't really challenged enough. I tried taking him for a bike ride just holding on to the leash, which was very exhilarating but highly dangerous for both of us. That night I started digging into reviews of bike leashes, and settled on this one. There are plenty of other reviews about the specs, so I'll focus on our experience. I have a Specialized 29er with disc breaks, and while it was a little challenging to figure out where to attach it to the frame, it wasn't impossible. It does not fit over both the chain stay and the seat stay, but I was able to attach it to the chain stay and it is very secure. It does not interfere with the disc breaks. When not in use, it slips up nicely and clips under my seat. It was very easy to set it up and apply it right out of the package. I attached it right to our dog's 1" collar, and we were ready to go. I was initially a little concerned about it pulling on his neck, but as I've been observing him as he runs, it isn't pulling on his neck at all. It's merely a guide as he runs along. If this becomes a concern, I will purchase a harness as others have suggested. I had initially been having him heel on the right side, so it took a slight adjustment for him to be on the left. He did have a tendency to chew on it when we were initially getting set up, so we worked on that immediately to prevent him from damaging the leash. He weighs about 50lbs. Ever since we adopted him we've been teaching him to be focused when we're on walks, and biking hasn't been any different. Any distractions that have come up have been very easy to correct. When I was stopped and another dog came along, he was able to pull the bike around to go sniff the other dog, so that might be a concern with a dog that has a tendency to randomly lunge. I did not make a separate trip into our vet for permission to use it, as I had just had him into the vet last week and was give a clean bill of health. We have been starting out gradually, only allowing him to go a couple miles in the beginning. I hold him back in the beginning for a warm up, then let him run for a while, following it up with a walk on the leash for a cool down. So far, our longest ride has been about 4 miles. I have been keeping a close eye on his pads for wear and hot spots. He still seems to have plenty of energy, but getting better exercise than we could provide by only walking and running at our pace seems to have helped tremendously with his excess energy. Getting exercise at his level has allowed him to be much calmer around the house, and has cured a great deal of his restlessness. Being a newbie dog owner still, I have weeks of experience instead of years, but a key seems to be that you keep working with your dog in all kinds of different situations. Starting in a less trafficked area with few distractions seems like a wise choice to me, and then gradually work in more obstacles and distractions. Having a consistent working relationship with your dog seems key too. All that being said, it's going to be a whole lot nicer to get out in the rainy, 50 degree weather today and go for a 25 minute bike ride instead of a 45 minute walk, knowing that my dog is still getting the exercise he needs. If we have issues with the structure and longevity of the device in the future or further safety concerns, I will update.

Worth the Price!
Purchased this back in March to exercise my then 7 month old lab. I thought it was pricey but it has turned out to be the best purchase for exercise and enrichment. It is easy to attach to my bike and I rarely need to tighten up the connection. When my dog pulls sideways, the bike slows it doesn’t tip - don’t understand the physics behind that phenomenon but it was a big concern that she would pull me over but seems impossible based on my experience. Great quality and flexible but stable attachment! No issues at all and I’ve ran her daily for 7 months using this. I DON’T like the marketing showing to attach the dog at the neck. VERY dangerous. I bought a great American made harness with multiple points of attachment on the back (Alpine Outfitters Urban Trail Adjustable Harness). Works perfect together. In the warm months I always have a kiddie pool after the run so she can cool down quickly.

Pricey but Works!
I was a little hesitant about spending so much and almost bought a less expensive model, but after reading reviews decided to just start at the top! I haven't regretted it. My 'little pony' (a 75# yellow field lab--15 mos old) absolutely loves to bike (and swim, and play, play, play), and to say my long-legged girl is a bit rambunctious would be a gross understatement! And she is olympic-athlete strong! I biked with her until she was 10 mos old with just a leash, but now she needs more stability and so do I. This tow leash/bar fits the bill perfectly. It's stong and resilient in spite of her sudden pulls (oh, a bug! oh, a leaf!) and lurches (gotta potty right now!) and I no longer am pulled over with her sudden changes of direction--also my hands are free to control the bike. I still keep a loose leash on her collar, but only because we stop frequently for water and potty breaks (we go several miles at a time) and we disconnect from the bike. I use an EZdog chest halter and hook the tow leash to the ring on the back of it--I like that better than the direct clip to her collar. Of course, she can't go as fast or as far as I can ride by myself, so these are exercise trips more for her to get to run than for me to get an all-out bike ride, and I have to watch to be sure she doesn't overdo it. She likes to go full out, and the yellow insert is flexible and 'gives' in and out of the red sheath as she pulls or dodges objects as we ride, giving her lots of freedom to move closer or further from my side. She did have a tendency to try and bite the bar over her right shoulder when we first started, but now ignores it. The bar attaches to the hub of my bike wheel with ease (and doesn't give or slip) and is also easy to remove--though I usually just clip the clasp up onto the underside of my bike seat when I ride alone. I've used this for about six months now, usually once a day at least with my rowdy girl, and it is holding up good as new! Highly recommend!

AWESOME! 100% Recommend!
If you are thinking about buying this... just get it. This is the best dog "toy" I've ever purchased. Not only do my dogs love it but I too have so much fun riding around with them. I was a little skeptical when I bought it as I have powerful dogs that like to chase cats and squirrels, but the Bike Tow Leash has exceeded all my expectations. Even with two strong dogs I've never had a problem or felt out of control. The way it attaches to the lower part of the bike frame is brilliant from a physics perspective and totally makes the bike feel very stable even when dogs pull to the side from time to time. I purchased the standard Bike Tow Leash and attached it to a the left rear triangle of a 2015 Pivot Mach 4 Carbon. I also bought the 2nd dog attachment. Also keeps me on the right side of the law because off leash dogs are not allowed in many areas. However like anything you do need to use it properly. Do pay very close attention to your dogs when using this device as you could easily over exert them and or overheat them by pushing them too hard, especially during warm or hot weather. So do learn about the signs of overt exertion and hyperthermia in dogs. On hot days don't use it. On warm days take them out early and wet their coats as you could easily overheat a dog with something like this. Also a device like this is not for user on puppies and young dogs. Wait until 1 -1.5 years old (depending on breed) as you can do permanent damage to their joints. Sustained running is not recommended on younger dogs as it can harm joints and growth plates of bones. For more info and guidance do an internet search for "Puppy Culture Activity Chart" for more guidance or talk with your vet). However if used with good judgement the Bike Tow Leash will bring years of enjoyment to you and your dogs!

almost perfect
I have owned mine for about a year now and use it 3 - 4 times per week. I love it to exercise my mutt that clearly has some type of racer in her because it's impossible to run as fast as her or tire her out in any way. So this is a great option for getting her some regular challenging exercise. I use it on a simple beach cruiser and it works fine. There are a few things I don't like and they wouldn't deter me from buying the product but that I hope the company will address on an update. First, it can only be used on the left side of the bike so if we go on the street my little girl is closest to the traffic. It's fine in my immediate neighborhood and on the bike path where I primarily use it and there are very few cars but it has deterred me from using it more often in the wider neighborhood. Second, I find it a bit cumbersome to attach and detach. If I want to run her in the morning and then use my bike for errands it's a bit complicated. I wish the attachment were a quick clamp rather than screws with two washer and two knobs that always fall out of my hands and roll somewhere gross in the garage. Two other things I don't love are that my dog is rather tall and I find the arm sort of pushes down on her back (I've attached it as many different ways as I can with my bike but even with the best I can get it still happens) and I don't like the idea of going at high speeds with it attached to her collar around her neck so I use a chest harness and this means she has a bit more freedom than I would like. For example I have to be hyper vigilant when a dog that she dislikes is nearby so she doesn't try to get in front of the bike. But like I said, I've use it multiple times a week for a year now and it hasn't failed me yet so it's a good product. Just maybe could use a little updating. I should also add it took a little getting used to for her, so please be patient with your dog. I started teaching her the commands "Left", "Right" and "Slow down" so she knows what's about to happen and that has been really helpful. It has also really helped her get more comfortable with bikes and she definitely is more confident around other dogs when she's running on it because she doesn't get the time to fixate on them as she does when we're just walking.

Excellent for timid cyclist
I'm a rather timid bicyclist. I don't like to ride in traffic or in crowds. However, I have a foot problem that makes difficult for me to walk any distance and I can't run at all. Cycling is my main form of exercise. I like the local rail trails and I regularly go about 10 or 12 miles. I always felt so sad having to leave my 80 lb Black Lab home. He's young and active and the exercise would be great for him. I decided to give a bike leash a try and I read the reviews of all the leashes online. As I said, I am a timid cyclist. The Bike Tow Leash is the most expensive, but the reviews said the dog could not pull you over if your weight was on the bike. So I did it; I bought a BTL and gave it a try. The first day I was too scared to even get on the bike -- and the dog CAN pull it over if you're not sitting on it! I walked him next to my bike every day for a few days and finally got brave enough to ride the bike around my cul-de-sac...And the thing works. The dog can't pull it over and he's controlled at a perfect distance from the bike. I've gone a mile or so with him in my neighborhood 6 or 7 times and we did a mile on the rail trail over the weekend. I'm taking it slow to build his fitness level. You cannot feel the dog pulling at all with the BTL. I know he is pulling, because I can see him, but you can't feel it. He went around behind the back wheel once while I was walking him next to the bike, but when we're riding he just doesn't do that. Get him up to a good speed and he doesn't notice anything; he's just running. He stays right next to me and runs with me. I feel completely safe and in control of my dog. I find it simple to install and remove. Most days I don't remove it, I just clip it up under the seat. It's hooks to his collar easily. Since my dog is black I was concerned that he would not be visible to cars, so I bought a bright vest for him to wear when we are in my neighborhood where there might be cars. On the trails I didn't bother. I do carry another leash in case I need to take him off the bike for any reason. The BTL is a smartly engineered, simple, and effective item. I have a exercise partner now that loves to run and never refuses to go. I recommend it highly.

This product is a GODSEND
I am beyond thrilled with this product, and it is worth every penny. My active 2 year old rescue pit bull girlie is a challenge to exercise, due to pulling and reactivity. But when I put her on this and let her run, we didn’t die, lol! It did exactly what it was supposed to; kept her far enough away from my bike so we didn’t crash into eachother and enough tension to keep her from pulling me down with any distractions (squirrel!). I felt super sturdy and safe. When we were done, it clipped right onto the back rack, out of the way. Attached left side of an ancient Peugeot road bike frame easy peasy at my local bike shop. It ended up being super simple but even the shop owner took some time to figure out the confusing instructions (the pictures are not great/easy to follow). Anyway, 5 stars!

Best Invention Ever!!
I really love the BLT it has done wonders for our husky's walks. Not only can we both walk Apollo with the bike but, I don't hear how Apollo pulled my other half off the bike or how he had to let go of the leash. Now I know my baby is safe and my other one cannot get hurt. It's made walks much much safer and happier for everyone. Apollo is still able to signal (nipping at our feet) that he needs to stop for whatever reason. When he wants to really run he can as you notice you're being pulled forward. Some sidewalks are a bit narrow and if someone got happy planting shrubs on both sides it makes things a little cramped but, we've managed so far. Apollo loves to chase rabbits. He broke my finger when he pulled the leash out of my hand on a walk. The first time he went to chase a rabbit while using the BLT he lunged hard at a rabbit to his left. I felt the pull but, never felt off balance or unstable. I didn't even stop peddling or need to hit the brakes. Apollo is 55 pounds of all muscle Siberian Husky. Apollo picked up on how to use the leash quickly. Here's Apollo now saying, it's time for a walk. BTL is an amazing product and the inventor thought of everything. It's a bit pricing but, worth every penny. Don't waste time buying other products, just buy this one and you will not be disappointed. I installed it on my bike in less than 5 mins. BEST PRODUCT EVER!

Works great
I use this on a disc braked eMTB. Works really well with my German Shorthaired Pointer dog. Only issue I had is ensuring the mount doesn’t block the speed sensor on the frame which uses a magnet on the disc.

Purchase directly from the supplier
The leash sent to me was the shorter version of the BTL which is not for a bicycle, and was also Red and not Orange as described. If I were to reorder it would be directly from the supplier, to avoid misunderstanding and disappointment irrespective of the Amazon seller refunding the difference in cost for the shorter version which is slightly cheaper.

AMAZING Bike Tow leash
I ride my bike with my Weim pup and this leash is super flexible, durable and it stabilizes my bike even if my pup wants to chase after a squirrel. It’s very easy to install and no tools required. This is the BEST PURCHASE I’ve made and it’s well worth the money. I feel in full control when cycling and I never have to worry my pup yanks me in different direction.

FANTASTIC Gift!
I purchased a Bike Tow Leash as a gift for me from me, a number of years ago, and love it for my trike and my 2 German Shepherd girls. I absolutely love it as it gives me another way to spend time with my girls, with all 3 of us getting exercise. My friend, a super dog lover, also enjoyed the concept immensely.... so I did what I had to do, and purchased one for her as an early birthday gift. Unfortunately, winter arrived a bit early, so she is looking forward to giving it a go in the spring. Bottom line - this is a perfect gift and easy to safely use. Enjoy!
