As i understand, this sensor is good for orientation. but is also better for 3d position calculation, then the cheaper imus?

The linear acceleration comes only relative to the Chip's coordinate frame. Getting absolute "earth-frame" acceleration requires 3D vector rotations (Adafruit might do this, but I did my own). Regardless, double integrating acceleration to get position has a lot of drift error. The fusion acceleration data (gravity removed) only updates at 100Hz. I tried integrating at 60Hz with no filtering and picking the chip up off the table caused a velocity drift of ~1m/s. Unusable! Getting accurate *position* readings for any IMU is an incredibly intricate science regardless of the IMU capabilities.

Does anybody know about the effect of vibrations on this sensor?

This device is usually used in fusion modes which filter out noise, including vibration, to a significant degree in order to calculate absolute orientation and direction. You can access the sensors in raw mode to fully expose the vibration. The Adafruit website has example code and a link to the Bosh BNO055 data sheet.

Is it possible to connect this through USB to my computer?

Not directly. You would need to connect it to something like an Arduino or Raspberry Pi, and write code for those processors to get the data into your PC.

Fascinating to use

Didn’t work

The board didn’t work when it was installed in my system. The board is not detectable on the I2C bus. I believe the board was probably damaged in transit as it arrived in a plain envelope with no padding or protection. Very disappointed. Purchased a replacement for the Pi Hut and that one worked 1st time.

Plenty of information on line to support the device

Recognised manufacturer, only a couple of connections required to get data out of the device. Purchased the unit to study about inertia devices. Only disadvantage so far is that its a bit pricey compared with similar devices but probably more reliable
