How well do these actually work?

I personally like them alot. They work well! I got rid of the 3M velcro tape they give because it doesnt last long when adjusting. But i work at 3M lol so i get the good black velcro adhesive and it holds great!

Would these attack to a microphone stand?

Depends on the stand. These mount via 3m Velcro snap tabs, but you wouldn't want any headphones interfering with the sensors view.

Can these be mounted to tension rods?

That would not be ideal, as these are meant to attach to a flat surface such as a wall. You may not get proper adhesion with a rounded surface, depending on the size. You could strap these to the rods, but that would require additional work and/or material which is not included.
