Quick and Easy Knee Strengthening
My doctor diagnosed me with bad knees last month and recommended that I get more bicycle exercise to strengthen them. I am a pretty busy person and am not a great fan of bicycle riding. I wanted something that would allow me to exercise while doing other activities and this fits the bill. Here are the pros and cons: Pros: -Bicycle-like exercise in convenience of office or while watching TV -Good stability if you pedal correctly (don't push excessively in any one direction) -Small so it stores easily -Quiet operation -Can "dial up" resistance easily Cons: -While it is bicycle exercise, it does not give as large a range of motion as a traditional exercise bike (but neither do any other floor foot pedals) -The timer has a single button which is somewhat sluggish (have to press and hold to get it to react), but I just use the wall clock to keep track of time -While stability is acceptable, the rubber shoes on it can turn and make the machine unstable. I am sure it can be fixed with some type of glue on the shoes, but it is not enough of a problem to cause me to do so Overall, this is an easy and effective way to exercise, especially my knees, in the most convenient way. I bought two of these units, one for the office and one for home, and am pleased with both. To complete my knee strengthening, I also purchased a pair of Valeo Adjustable Ankle or Wrist Weights , a Schwinn AD2 Airdyne Exercise Bike , and a couple sets of Power Systems Versa-Loop Resistance Band (see my reviews of these items) for a comprehensive workout program focused on my knees.

very pleased with this, amazing value
I'm very pleased with this. It's an amazing value for $36. It is extremely sturdy. I was thinking it might be bendable lightweight aluminum, but I doubt that I could dent this with a sledgehammer. And while it is easy to move around, it is not a piece of lightweight junk. It is easy to assemble. The instructions looked daunting, but the nuts and bolts are all identical, and it rapidly became apparent that each leg gets attached to the main piece at three places, a t bolt screws into the top for tension control, the timer slips on, and presto, you're done. Let me address a few things I read in the reviews that had me a bit worried before I bought it: It does not slide for me on carpet. I spoke to their customer service, and the lady there said she places hers against a wall to prevent sliding. There is a slight jerk in each revolution, but pushing down on the pedals with slightly more force than you might think you need fixes that. So it doesn't have the complete Zen quality of a real exercise bike, but what the heck, it's $36. I asked her about squeaking, and she said two things. One is you can add oil by unscrewing the t bolt, adding oil, then putting the t bolt back, and the other is that sometimes if the bike has been used long enough, you will have to dial back the tension via the t bolt as it does tighten up and may squeak. I find that the t bolt does control the tension well. It is not all or nothing, imho. The size is very convenient, you can put it in the bottom of a closet easily. This is a really excellent product for non-jocks who want to get in better shape, the elderly, etc.

Great little machine
I bought this machine because I am disabled and had to find a new form of excerise tailored to fit my current situation with physical limitations & chronic pain aggravated especially from standing. I love this machine...Honestly,yes, it could be constructed better, does have some flaws...the rubber feet come off easily, so i am going to glue them on (not a big deal)... the construction of the machine seems a little off in terms of overall "even-ness"-- construction/balance" but i use it on the carpet in my living room and dont have a problem..I also recommend you use it on carpet....Also, the inside/top of the pedals where the medal is gets a little warm but not super hot like some write and i use the machine for about 35 minutes, pausing a few times but only for seconds....i had to start off slow and have now worked my way up in time. THE BEST PART--- I noticed the benefits right away from using the machine, it has helped me lose weight, and strengthen my legs and arms....if you are disabled like me or are super limited as to what type of excerise you can do, "i definitely suggest this...it takes up very little space and though not perfect in construction, is still worth the price...it is helping me alot!"

Very nice with flaws
Got this for my disabled elderly Mother. I noticed that many here are having issues with it sliding. The one I got does not so much as slide across the floor (we have rug floor)but the rubber stabilizers (4 on each "foot") rotate when you peddle which in turns slides the peddler forward. A Tip my Mother and I discovered which really helps. Take off the rubber foots and place a thick rubber band around each of the foot metal bars. Then replace the rubber feet back on over the rubber bands/foot bars. this prevents the rubber feet to rotate around the metal. Worked very well for us and now it does not slide forward. Pros : Very solid/Large so no warble with movement/Looks nice/Low height so easy to place under chair when not in use/Disabled Elderly Mother gets a good workout,She mostly just needs to move and get the blood moving. Cons: Rubber covers slide (rotate) around metal feet to much./ Practically no resistance on this so forget about getting a good exercise which is fine for my Mother as she just needs the movement and slight resistance. We have not tried it out much to determine if there are any other issues as some have pointed out (squeeking/Hot surface) but so far all in all it is a very solid well put together item and works great for my Mother who has spinal/leg issues and is 70yrs old.Shes mainly in her wheel chair all day so we are hoping this will allow her to get some movement and stretching. 3 stars for issues listed above but I would give this 4 stars for what we need it for and 5 stars for its very solid build.

Recovering from hip surgery
I have been through physical therapy and am now ready to do at-home therapy to improve my flexibility, as I rely on a cane at this stage, and wish to be back to normal. I am 69 years young, and have a new bicycle waiting for me once I begin walking normally again. I saw this product, and thought what a great way to limber up at home while working on the computer (I spend on average 5 to 6 hours a day sitting at my desk). I just started using this nifty machine yesterday, and I am over the moon thrilled! I did learn that it needs to be on carpet (not on my glossy floor mat under my desk and chair) as it slides without having carpet underneath. After finding the proper placement I have been able to peddle at a setting that is not too hard yet, and cannot believe how in one day of use I already feel stronger! The price is right, the size is small enough for my small apartment, and it already 95% assembled, easy to finish in minutes. I recommend this to anyone who is sedentary much of a day. Gets the heart pumping, and the feeling in my legs and hip area are awesome. Thank you for a great product.

Doesn't give a good exercise and is now unused.
This has been used about twice in my house, but is now in the way. Pros: - Timer - Easy to use Cons: - The friction style of resistance means that either your feet are moving too easily without enough resistance or they instantly stop (as opposed to a true bike where the resistance changes gradually, not abruptly). Its very annoying during use to have the pedals constantly start and stop. - Device often slides on floor due to its light weight. - While friction is adjustable, I can't get it high enough to feel like I'm getting any exercise at all. I honestly feel like I'm just kicking my feet in the air and that's it. - The circumference of the circle you make with the pedals is very small, also making it feel like no exercise at all. - On the one I received, one of the screw holes was drilled incorrectly so I could only install 3 our of the 4 screws (which honestly was enough for stable use). Conclusion: Using this device for about 15 minutes felt like no exercise at all. For the reasons above, I feel the exercise was equivalent to sitting in my chair and lifting my feet off the ground in a walking type motion. After two tries each, it is no longer used by anyone in the house. I would not suggest this to anyone else and would not repurchase if given the chance.

Great Unit
I had knee replacement Surgery Dec 3rd. I didn't want to go to out patient therapy due to the horrific winter. I was told by my in home therapists that I was bending the knee and walking so great after the two weeks of surgery that if I disciplined myself at home I wouldn't have to go. So I ordered this unit and it works great. It is easy to do a little assembly on and stays in place as you pedal. For me it was great to have for the exercise I wanted. There is a tension on it that you can adjust very easily to hard pedal like going up a hill if you want to. There is also a calorie counter on it which I have never bothered to use. It beats going to the gym or out to therapy. I am 71 years old so this was just the ticket for me. You can also use it on a table for a good cardio work out.

Nice workout; easy on the knees
I purchased my Instride Cycle XL to exercise after tearing the meniscus in my knee. Physical therapy got me to the point where I could finally cycle, but not with a normal bike, which would put strain on the knee. This fun little job does the trick. Yes, it has slipped when just on the wood floor, but once I position it against my desk, centered against the leg of one kneehole, it doesn't move at all. The timer thing is totally useless; it would have been much better if it had "mileage" or cardio, but for the money, you can't ask for much more. I cycle while at my computer, watching tv or reading, and it definitely works the legs and a bit of the upper body if you position yourself correctly on the chair. I use weights to exercise my arms and upper body, but you can put it on a table and use the pedals to exercise your arms. I would highly recommend it!

I really recommend this to anyone looking to add a little more activity while not losing productivity.
I bought this when I went back to working in an office as I find that once I sit down in the morning the next thing I know it can be the end of the day and I've barely moved from my seat and my lower back is aching. It was super easy to put together just adding the feet (which are flat on one side to keep it from shifting) on and connecting two pieces, I had it together in a couple minutes. I like having the option of the little timer but I find I rarely use it. The part that I really like about these is the handle over top of the foot pedals which helps keep my dress shoes in place. I'm pretty tall so my knees do hit the bottom of the table if i'm not careful but have found that if I pull out my keyboard I can manage without that problem. I turn the tensioner on super tight which helps with that too. This is not meant for folks who are super in shape looking to train but is great for people looking to add in a little mobility and movement into an otherwise tedious sitting day. I know it doesn't sound like a feature but also while I'm not using it to cycle, it makes a nice rest for my feet while I'm sitting on my desk. All in all I really recommend this to anyone looking to add a little more activity while not losing productivity. I'm still very pleased with my purchase and find that it helps my back from aching by the end of the day too.

BASTANTE FUNCIONAL

Pseudo exercise bike....
Easy to assemble. Compact so doesn't take up much space. Slips on the floor so I bought antiskid self liner...works so far. Have not been able to adjust the tension. Setting goes from really easy to peddle to easy to peddle.

Accurate Reviews
I found reviews of this product to be completely accurate. For the price, it's an OK tool for basic, modest needs -- in my case, to condition my knees after knee-replacement surgery. But, there are all the deficiencies others have noted. The floor-grips do not grip. It slides across the floor, and you will find yourself hunting for a piece of foam or rubber to affix to or put under the machine. The tension-control knob is a joke. There is no tension control. You will not win the stationary Tour de France with this thing, but you will be able to do some light exercise.
