In the Line of Fire: The Inside Story from the Lions Head Coach : Gatland, Warren: desertcart.co.uk: Books Review: A great coach - A diary of a rugby coach, who has had to put up with some horrible attacks by his own countrymen during tours to NZ. His CV shows his success writ large! One of the most successful coaches in the British Isles, an enviable record. And I write this as a non Welshman. An enjoyable record of the period mostly covering the Lions tour to NZ, not an easy task. Review: Four Stars - Good interesting read.

Good and interesting
Enjoyed the insights behind the scenes and reasoning for some of the player selection, but there was a lot of repeat information which seemed more like filler

Good insight
Entertaining book. Gives an insight into a man who has coached at the top level for nearly 20 years and the unique and challenging circumstances of bringing a diverse team to his home country which he is clearly proud of. Good insight into his family who despite being separated for long periods are clearly close. Book let down by constant referrals to how he was maltreated by a local NZ paper (they did a good job in letting down their country themselves); Warrenball (who cares what his tactics are called -they work) and referees (they make mistakes but not deliberately).

Rugby fanatics only.
I used it for reading. What else? It was a diary of Warren's Lions year. Not that exciting. Only really for a rugby nut.

Excellent insight to the tour !
Thoroughly enjoyable read ..... as a traveling lions supporter, living out of a camper van, with just really the internet & gossip theories.... the book gives you a deeper insight, particularly to selection decisions made by Warren ! You canโt argue really ... the best coach in the world !

Great insight into the inner lair of the Lions. Gatland and his team did a wonderful job managing and coaching a talented, yet large group of players from diverse backgrounds and playing styles.

This story was a great description of a great rugby tour. However it was a bit mundane in places.
