I live in the north, winter time temps can get down to 20 below Fahrenheit. If the plow dings it with snow, will it shatter?

I don't think so, but please know that I live in Wisconsin, not the frozen north. And I have no experience with deep cold.

How is this mailbox attached to the post?

With four screws, to a platform cut to fit it and attached to the top of the post. My post is wood and I cut a piece of wood to use as a platform.
