will this fit left or right knee?

It should fit both knees. It is designed for both of them. The sleeve knee braces are where you have to select which knee if I'm not mistaken.

My thigh 19, knee 15.5, calf 15.1. thigh n calf meets m size, but knee is an l. which one should i ordr?

My knee support has a surprising range of adjustability. That said, my choice would be the large; I hope that helps with your decision. My brace is working very well for alpine skiing and has made it possible to continue in a sport I enjoy.

What are the butterfly strap measurements per size? Got a small and outer straps fit, but inner butterfly straps do not.

I’m not sure what you mean by butterfly straps there are 2 straps that you have to put through a little buckle and bring back around so it adheres to the Velcro. It is stretchy.

Does this knee brace have an opening behind the knee?

No only opening is area around knee cap
