Not the best in the Hunger Games series, but a worthy depiction of previous Hunger Games history...
If you enjoyed the Hunger Games films, this was a good backstory on the retelling of the 10th Hunger Games, why they exist, and the origins of how Coriolanus Snow came to be. It helps you understand the depth of his character better, and why he resents Katniss so much during the original Hunger Games trilogy of books/films (CAVEAT: For the final book "Mockingjay", its film adaptation was split into two parts as a money grab by the film studios, but in my opinion its still a trilogy). It is not my favorite film of the franchise, but it is still a worthy piece of Hunger Games history. It also captures some good moments in the film, especially surrounding the man protagonist of the film Lucy Gray Baird as singer, songwriter and ultimate winner of the 10th Hunger games, and a supposed distant relative of Katniss Everdeen, according to author Suzanne Collins. As a whole I enjoyed the film overall. When this first came out on DVD/Bluray, I didn't initially get it, but after having seen it a couple more times on TV or cable in the past several months, I noticed a few things I didn't pick up on when first viewed at the theater, and decided it was worth having this DVD in my collection as well. Definitely recommended for Hunger Games fans of the series. TRIVIA: I cannot wait for the next film in the series depicting the 50th Hunger Games with a young Haymitch Abernathy, when it releases in theaters later this November 2026. You can bet money I will likely add that one to my Hunger Games collection as well once it releases on DVD/Bluray.

How it all began...
I read the book as soon as it was released and waited impatiently for the DVD. I'm happy to say it does justice to the print version. It follows the story of a young man with aspirations, ideals and values, illustrating how his world slowly changed him until his bitterness and lust for power took him down a road of corruption, conquest and tyranny. Not everyone who enjoyed the Hunger Games series will find this as cinematic, but anyone curious about the beginnings of President Snow and his descent into evil ways will be happy to add this movie to their collection.
