Sharing the result of her years combing dusty attics, archives, brocantes, and antique shops for vintage handstitched items and rare needlework manuals, embroidery expert Véronique Maillard here offers the patterns used by French women in the 1800s and early 1900s to prepare their dowry chests or to customize their household linens. Good resource book with 1 fault
As an experienced cross stitcher, I was looking for a good reference book, and I found it. It is hardcover and heavy, and as others have mentioned it has a significant number of alphabets over other types of charts. They are categorized by size, which I find very useful, and the photos show some lovely ways in which to use them. However, some of the charts are so tiny that they are almost impossible to read. I would have preferred they either made the book length bigger or eliminated those charts altogether. This is why I took out one star, but as a resource book the author has done a really fantastic job.

Counted Cross-Stitch Samplers
This is so much more than I thought it would be. Not is it just very heavy as there are so many beautiful sampler patterns which you can create your own personal samplers from. Pages are colorful and well it's just a beautiful book which could keep you creating for a very long time.

Love this Item
This is a heavy hard back book and the pages are glossy. It's well worth the money and the print is very large of the motifs for easy stitching. On top of it's quality of the stitching motifs, it's makes for a very pretty coffee table book.

Awesome book of vintage Sajou alphabets and floral motifs for cross stitching. There are several color photographs of finished pieces using the designs for inspiration.

A cross stitcher’s MUST HAVE!
What an investment! This book is worth every single cent, it’s stunning and crammed with inspiration and beauty. The graphs are very clear and would allow anyone to create endless possibilities with their needle. I had to think hard about whether or not I wanted to spend so much on a cross stitch book but now I have it, I’m kicking myself I didn’t buy it sooner! You won’t regret buying it, even if it’s the only cross stitch book you buy all year!

Antique French Embroidery
Bought for my daughter who is always working on embroidery. I hinted that I may have bought a book for her birthday. Knowing that it was quite heavy and that she would soon be returning to America, I was unsure. However, on receiving it there was no way that she would part with it! She has already made several gifts for friends and is absolutely delighted with it.
