how do you remove the cover to change the blades on this product?

The purple ring cover is threaded and can be unscrewed. The white inner ring over the blades needs to be gently pulled off. Once off, you'll notice two notched out areas that must be aligned to put this ring back in place. I wasn't quite sure how to remove that piece either, but once removed, it makes sense. Good luck.

Will it remove cat and dog hair?

I think that would depend upon the fabric that you were working with. Woolen items with more texture "clean up" much easier than smoother fabrics when it comes to hair removal. I've used this product for a few years now and I love it. You can't go wrong with it.

Improved appearance....

I have used this on two sweaters and it worked very well. I bought it mainly for my upholstered sofa. It did a good job. Comfortable, easy to use and empty. (I wish the electrical cord was a little longer.) Quite satisfied.

Average at best.

I have a small battery operated lint shaver and it seems to work better than this one. I was expecting that using this would take me less time to shave the pilled lint off of my couch cushions. It doesn't.

It Works Pretty Well

It did a good job getting white towel balls off a black adult tuxedo bib, but I found a razor purchased from the Dollar Store finished the job.
