Functional Skills Mathematics: Series editor: Tony Cushen (Edexcel Functional Maths)

Different things in the book to other books slowly helping me with my college work.

I have number discalculus and needed to up my GCSE grade to a Level 2 (grade C or above), as a mature student later down the years when embarking on a college qualification that requires maths grade C or above. I am hopeless with maths, and this book was recommended to me by an ex maths teacher when I told him of the maths course I needed to do in order to be qualified to do another course. He recommended this book and bought it for me. It is very useful and explains everything perfectly- I just wish I could remember what I have learnt (but that is my own personal deficit).

Quite wordy, which if you have less able students can be a challenge for them. Book is a lot thinner than expected for the price - I would have expected more exercises. Answers are not in the back, and not able to download from website, so what is the point? How are students expected to know whether or not they are correct? Examples are good though, giving lots of advice on how to answers questions.

Very good book but didn't have all the answer to the question I was trying to work out.

Was not too impressed with this book. I expected it to have more up-to-date examples. It only had one. The syllabus is much more challenging than the examples it offers. Might as well read an ordinary maths book!!

I've been practicing for maths functional skills exam , this book has everything in it to cover all questions. Learnt so much from the book. Would highly recommend it

Good, simplistically laid out sample questions and example of possible solutions that were easy to understand and follow. It was published 2010 but still relevant and good for somebody revising for their exam, particularly those who have left education a few years ago and need to refresh their memory
