Review: Great book - I'm a diabetic using an exchanges diet to lose weight and control my Glucose. This book gave me everything I needed. The serving size, the nutritional numbers and exchanges. I've seen a number of diabetic cookbooks that don't give you everything you need. By the way, someone mentioned there are no serving sizes listed. Every recipe DOES show serving sizes. The nutritional values are usually near the bottom of the page, and the serving sizes are generally near the the top of the page. What I love about this book is that it's full of comfort food recipes, all of which have been reworked to fit our diets. I can't stand the thought of a piece of dry Chicken and a serving of Vegetables on my plate every night. This gives you everything from Pot Roast to Meatball sandwiches. My wife who isn't diabetic enjoys the dinners that this book makes possible also. The recipes almost always make 4 or more servings. That's okay with me. I measure everything out, and freeze the extra portions individually for later. Even reheated, these recipes taste better than any Lean cuisine or similar frozen dinner I've ever had. One caveat though. The exchanges they list are not always accurate. I've seen them list 28 grams of Carb as 1 carb exchange (that's almost 2 exchanges) and 10 grams of fat as 1 exchange (it's 2.) However, anyone who is following exchanges has to know how many grams makes up a serving. The grams are all listed, so I take that into consideration at mealtime, or adjust the recipe in advance to compensate. I was going to give it 4 stars because of that, but since all the info is there, I went with 5. I would recommend this to anyone, diabetic or not. But especially those of you like me, that can't say goodbye to certain foods. Review: So Far I Love The Recipes - I was recently diagnosed as a Type II diabetic two years ago, just a few months after finding out I have quite a few food allergies (a lot of fruits and tree nuts). I've been struggling finding things to eat that was "healthy" and something that wouldn't send me to the hospital at the same time. I purchased this book, along with the other book from the same publisher, and I've been enjoying the recipes. Course, the second time I make the recipe I do tweak the ingrediants just a bit (i.e. add a bit more of this or use less of that). One of my favorite recipes in this cookbook is the Turkey Tortellini Soup. Though, when I first made it I did not find turkey breast so had to use chicken. Either way, it was amazing. My mother (who is always skeptical about diabetic food) even enjoyed it. I've also made the Mediterrainian Chuck Roast for Easter 2015, and it was a hit! My grandmother, also Type II, loved it. I'm glad I purchased this book.

So Far I Love The Recipes
I was recently diagnosed as a Type II diabetic two years ago, just a few months after finding out I have quite a few food allergies (a lot of fruits and tree nuts). Diabetic Slow Cooker is full of easy, delicious recipes the whole family will love.
One of my favorite Diabetic Living Cookbooks. Starts out with tips to lighten up your slow cooker then goes on with some delicious recipes from chicken wings to comfort food such as Pot Roast with onions and Beef Burgundy ( both are favorites of ours). Did you know that you can cook dried beans is your slow cooker? Try Black Beans & Avocado on Quinoa. (I Sub wild rice for the Quinoa myself.). Mediterranean Chuck Roast is another family favorite. I also love the Cook Once, Eat Thrice section with it's 4 master recipes, each with 3 different ways to use them.

Not Great
This isn't exactly what I hoped it would be but will still try some recipes. I really don't like that most of the recipes have more carbs and of course carbs turn to sugar. I wanted lower carb content and pasta is not a good choice. Some of the recipes are a little weird but again I will try some things. I believe I have found more single recipes online that I like than what is in this book.

Highly recommend!
When my husband was diagnosed with diabetes, we made a concerted effort to change our diet. He has since lost 50 lbs and is maintaining a healthy blood sugar. The biggest part of his success is due to diet, but it can be cumbersome to count carbs when cooking at home and it is easy to get in a cooking rut. Thankfully, we found this cookbook. We had been using the Diabetes Meals by the Plate cookbook, which is also really great, but can be a bit time consuming with prep and cooking times. The Diabetic Slow Cooker recipes are the perfect solution for when we just can't commit the time to meal preparation: most of the recipes take a short amount of time to prep and then cook while we are at work. When we get home, viola, dinner is done! We particularly like the brisket and pulled pork. We've only found one recipe that was a miss, which is pretty good considering we've covered a good third of the book so far.
