YES if you leave it too long! Got mines in a hot day, placed it fast in fresh milk. Follow the instructions

Why are my grains still small and not growing

I am not an expert, but my grains are small and still ferment the milk to create delicious kefir. I don’t know if the grains should grow in size, they only seem to become more plentiful with each feed. I have given some to friends and they behave the same way. Delicious kefir!

What consistency will the kefir be? Like buttermilk? Or thinner?

Thinner when you start seeing the clear separations aka fermentation signs in the kefir, will go thicker if you leave it longer. Thinner is better for drinking. Filter the grains, add juice, stir the kefir and enjoy.
