Stick to the format!
What on earth were Lonely Planet thinking with their design of this new format! Gone are the detailed listings of Sights, Activities, Sleeping, Eating etc - this is what Lonely Planet used to do best! Instead we get rambling overviews of random things with not enough detail to allow planning and booking. I'll be taking the previous (20th) edition with us on our NZ trip! Please don't let all the guidebooks move to this format!

Brilliant planner!
Bought as a small gift to the grandparents for their big holiday this year, they loved it!! Means they wonโt miss any highlights when travelling around New Zealand.

Lonely planet
I only buy LP that for many years provided such much info on my destinations. Helpful tips and do's & dont's. So when my youngest decided after uni he was off to travel, one being NZ i knew the best book. Hopefully it proves me right. A thick book but wont take up alot of room.

I see I'm not alone!
I've got Lonely Planets dating back years - I am in my 70th year and was delighted to see that there was a brand new edition which I purchased for a 2 months independent trip round New Zealand which we've just completed. The book helped me have an overview and with my initial planning, it provided some bits of useful information while we were away but it really is a poor imitation of what one expects from a Lonely Planet guide. It's very lazily put together, there are several obvious inaccuracies and, as other reviewers have said, gone are the wonderful listings of places to stay and eat, gone are the detailed maps, gone is the real insight! I know the argument will be that everything of that sort is available online and who needs a map when we've got Google maps but in my view there remains a place for immersive, detailed information such as was the LP format as recently, for example, as the Iceland book I used for a holiday last June. We're planning Chile next. I shall read the reviews carefully before I buy the accompanying Lonely Planet. Let's hope editorial decision makers read reviews.

Complicated
It's clumsy to use because it's not in sequence. I bought the 'Rough Guide' some years back and thought it was a better

Best travel guide I've ever used!
Fantastic travel guide. My wife and I used this book to plan our honeymoon. Even though we consider ourselves adventurous and like to get off the beaten path, this book had some real hidden gems that we probably wouldn't have found on our own. From lodging to activities and tours, to hikes and scenic vistas, this book helped us have a fantastic experience. The organization and layout was exceptional, and there was just the right amount of information. It was also handy to pull out while on the road without cellphone reception to find little side trips. Highly recommended!

Disappointing
Not as informative as other Lonely planet guide when it comes to dining and accommodation. Donโt like the new layout either. Previous edition was better.

Impeccable as usual
Iโm a big fan of the Lonely Planet guides. I usually pick up one and plan my vacation based on the tips provided. The NZ tour guide helped me in locating some hidden gems in the places, I visited
