Is this a porous chalk board? Some liquid pens stipulate non porous to ensure that the ink can be wiped off.....

They should be fine with chalk pens, just remember that liquid chalk pen is designed for outdoor use and the better quality ones will need liquid chalk cleaner for removal. The chalk disolves when sprayed with the fluid then wiped with a jay cloth. Painting black is also an option, the paint dries within 15 mins and gives a perfect black finish again. Many pub customers do it this way.

Lovely high quality chalk board, sturdy enough to stand up against the elements, I bought this earlier in the year and have used it at country shows and markets, cleaned and re written on it loads of times and it still looks great.
