Hi there, Can this item be used as a freestanding work bench? What does that back look like?

Could be used as bench the back is just plain black

How ridged is it when locked in position, I.e is it suitable for sawing or does it wobble?

Yes it should be fine for sawing quite rigid.

Do the two sides function as pegboard?

Yes they could do although I haven't checked if the holes are standard width apart to attach hooks etc. Personally I would prefer it if the sides were solid to avoid dust getting into the cupboard & draws.

do the drawers lock ?

No, just the cupboard. The drawers close with a positive motion, sitting firmly when pushed to but they don’t lock.
