I’m returning to the flute after more than 20years away from it and realise I need to start from the basics again. This book is good as it slowly introduces the notes but also reading flute music. There’s a lot of information at the start about beginning flute that I did already know, but there are also a lot of pieces I didn’t practice with and so makes a nice change to hear beginner pieces coming out of my flute that aren’t Merrily We Roll Along!

I ordered this book after being given a flute to learn on. Being an absolute beginner, the title appealed to me. The book takes you from how to assemble the flute, through to making your first notes and playing simple pieces, to cleaning and looking after your instrument. The accompanying CD is really great too - I found the backing tracks really good fun which made the learning process feel like a very positive experience - I'd always want to go back for more. I would definitely recommend this book to anyone who has never played the flute before. The gentle pace, along with the backing tracks and easy to follow instructions make for fun and productive practice sessions.

I bought this book a while ago and wanted to try it out before reviewing. I was an absolute flute beginner when I bought this. I found this book to be brilliant. The CD was really helpful to ensure I was getting the right sound. A step by step introduction to the flute and tunes you learn are not the standard nursery rhyme type tunes you get in other books, these are great tunes with beautiful backing tracks. I have lessons now but this book got me to that stage.

A good start for an absolute beginner. Takes you step by step from handling the flute, playing simple music and learning to read music.

Bought a second hand flute from ebay - never played in my life before but thought I'd teach myself during lock-down, even though I am still working. Anyway, I am still working on my embouchure but never the less - I can play a tune!! I was supposed to have flute lessons but thought I'd make a start. I am really impressed with myself and this book!!! Easy to use and covers most of the notes, pity there wasn't a book 2

Pretty limited. Only shows finger positions for half the notes a flute is capable of playing.

This book explains and gives helps for the problems any beginning flautist has. The book goes slow and once the basics are mastered the book ends and you must then upgrade to another book that you are now ready for.

Great book! HOWEVER it didn't not come with the CD!! Update: This listing as well as other people mentioned an accompanying CD to practice with, but my book did not come with a cd. HOWEVER, in the inside front cover, there is a code to access all the tracks online. Much easier to play using my phone than a cd.

I am teaching myself how to play the flute. This book has made it quite easy to get started.
