Very pleased. This is my 3rd gate. There are some rather negative remarks regarding this item, but I can assure you - if you lay it out and measure distances once, twice, three times, AND use the paper template supplied to ensure the pivot mounts are correctly aligned - you will have a wonderfully installed stair gate. Planning is EVERYTHING. When installing in a doorway, you will need to ensure the plastic peg is correctly in place so as to allow the gate to open in one direction ONLY. It might seem as if it can open in the same direction as wne the door is open, but it will bind on the spine and will need to be opened AGAINST the direction of the door (i.e. if the door opens into a room - the gate must open out from the room). Naturally, if used across stairs or non-door way, the direction of opening need not be set and the plastic peg can be ignored. Best to extend the gate as large as possible for the gap and use the adjustable pivots/catch-pegs to fine-tune the gaps. It means there are no gaps bigger than there are between the bars of the gate, itself. Mine are used between rooms to stop dogs but allow the cat to leap over it. Whether impossible for a child to open it is impossible for me to say (none of the dogs have managed it...) HOWEVER, I will state that opening it requires attention or practise to execute.Care is needed if carrying something spillable as it is a seemingly secure lock that requires both lifting the gate out of a notch AND turning a 'stop' to allow the gate to be lifted out of said notch. Seems tricky, but is a smooth action once you get used to it. You really MUST take care when mounting the pivot blocks. USE THE SUPPLIED PAPER TEMPLATE. It will ensure they are vertical, aligned with each other, and the correct distance apart. Correct alignment means smooth action and neutral action (the gate doesn't swing open/closed when not latched) Basically, it will stay where you leave it if you get it right. Be very careful with hanging it to opne left or right. The two parts of the gate overlap and it creates right/wrong sides when it comes to opening against a wall. If you find it binds, then just mount it upside down and reverse the screw-in pivots top to bottom. NOTE: they are different because each is keyed to each pivot block. This is because one has the release mechanism which allows for the total removal of the gate from whatever gaps it is onstalled. Ah, yes, removal. Extremely handy. Once installed, it is sturdy and won't be possible to 'push through' - but if you need to move a large object past it (furniture etc.) then a grey button allows you to lift the gate up and clear of the pivot blocks. Noteb that you need to activate interlocks precisely as if opening the gate normally. So, no child is going to just lift the gate out of the way rather than opening it! I wrote that I have bought three of these gates. I actually use four stair gates. The first was another brand. It is excellent, but it lacks the ability to be removed entirely from the doorway without actually unscrewing the pivot blocks from the door frame (which I have had need to do, twice. This brand is as solid but a little better designed. You won't regret buying this gate as long as you use your head when installing it.

Great gate
I bought this gate for the top of my stairs not for a child but for an adult who was at risk of falls. The idea was to stop him trying to get down the stairs on his own. It done the above with ease. Easy enough to install to the wall or wooden frame. Pretty lightweight for what it is and made of. The gate locks easy when closing the gate. And easy enough to open if you know how. Comes in white with an easy to clean surface. When fixed to a brick wall it's is very very sturdy so there is no way it's going to fail. It's guaranteed safety as long as you fit it correctly. The great part is because the gate is fixed to the wall with hinges. There is no bottom bar to step over which is great. When installing the gate make sure you alter the gate to the correct size. Altering the size of the gate is fairly easy. I actually still can't get over the fact this is so cheap. This must be the cheapest gate I've ever purchased but also one of the best. For all the above reasons I can honestly say I highly recommend this gate. It's great value for money too. Which means you get a quality product for a cheap price.

good quality hinged gate
I needed a stair gate to stop the puppy from exploring. As this was going to be fixed across the stairs I did not want a gate that works by pushing against the walls; the end banister might not like it! This gate is made from 2 overlapping metal frames that link together very well with four clips that screw into the frame. I was sceptical at first, but they hold together really well. The included template to position the top and bottom hinge plates was good quality and accurate, so fitting the hinge was a breeze. I had to drill two holes to position the top catch on the opposite side to the hinge and the bottom catch screwed into the wooden skirting. The adjustments on each corner made this very easy to position. Note that if you position the hinges inside a door frame then you can only open the gate to 90 degrees, so if you want to open it wider, ensure the hinges are near the edge of the frame, or as I have done in my case, on the front of the end banister. Operating the gate is easy, just lift the gate a couple of cm to lift the gate over the catches - I chose this particular gate because it features a spring-loaded swivelling blocker that prevents the gate from being lifted otherwise... I did not want the puppy from lifting it with his nose !! closing the gate is the same - lift and pop the gate back into its catches - the swivel block flips aside to allow this. Early days but the gate feels sturdy and just the job if you don't mind screwing the hinges and catches into the wall. Oh and even better, if you want to remove the gate for a short time, the gate lifts off the hinges with a small button on the top hinge. I recommend this and would not hesitate to buy again. and I am fussy ! November 2023 update - We originally positioned the gate at the foot of the stairs and as the Labrador pup grew, well - he vaulted the gate and explored the mystical "upstairs realm" ! We re-positioned the gate up a step and that seems to have solved that problem... gate still works really well and the spring-loaded catch, whose spring feels lighweight is still doing its job.

Good quality, easy to fit, simple to use
I got this gate to keep our dogs out of my elderly mum's downstairs bedroom and it has done the job perfectly. The gate had to be fully opening with no step over bar (like so many have) because that would be a real trip hazard for mum, and it had to be easy opening with no fiddly catches as her hands and balance aren't so good now. I didn't fit the actual finger operated latch to 'lock' it and instead used the bottom catch at the top, this means the gate shuts by simply dropping the top bar of the gate into the catch, and likewise simply lift it up and out to open. Mum manages this quite well. The gate swings both ways so is very easy to get through going in or out. Because the metal frame of the gate is actually quite solid and substantial (no lightweight thin metal here) it won't bend or mis-shape and the dogs cannot push it open or squeeze under it. I might need another one for the back door and if I do it'll definitely be this type again. Highly recommend.

Excellent value, great gate !
We bought this to stop an elderly relative from wandering up the stairs as she was at great risk of falling. It came the very next day after ordering. My husband fitted it to the stairs. That was relatively straightforward. We like the fact that the gate can be simply lifted out of its fittings to allow big pieces of furniture to be brought up or down the stairs. The gate opens wide so no bar below to potentially trip over. The opening mechanism is good and will be difficult for an elderly person with arthritis in the hands to open. She is pretty determined so I may need to update my review at some point ! In all, a great purchase, suits our needs. So far, so good!

The product looked previously used or paint damaged
Very unprofessional to deliver a paint damaged product to customer. I have paid the price to receive a new product. Totally unexpectable.
