Buy Bosha Bhat to Biryani: The Legacy of Bangladeshi Cuisine by Niaz Zaman (ISBN: 9789845060332) from desertcart's Book Store. Everyday low prices and free delivery on eligible orders. Review: Assalamu alaikum from Northern California (USA). Adaab. ***Caveat emptor, if purchasing your copy from Dhaka-based Rubi Enterprise.*** I am a Burmese-born Chinese personal chef (home cook) with laser-focused culinary interests in regional Indian, provincial Persian, and Yangon-style Burmese cuisines. I cover all of my books in acid-free archival plastic from Brodart and Demco products because cookery books are tools that aid in improving my culinary craft and towards my livelihood. I was given a courtesy copy of the "Bangladeshi Biryani" recipe by my acquaintance in Dhaka, Bangladesh—Ms. Amina Rahman, owner of The Bookworm Bangladesh Bookstore—while I waited for my copy of "Bosha Bhat to Biryani: The Legacy of Bangladeshi Cuisine" to arrive here in the USA. The order was placed on May 24, 2024, and I received my copy of the book today, June 10, 2024. The transit and customs process was reasonable. Nothing unusual or extraordinary about the transit between Dhaka (BD) and Northern California (USA). As for the book and its contents, this book features fantastic, classical, and traditional recipes from Bangladesh—formerly known as East Pakistan/East Bengal prior to the 1971 Liberation of Bangladesh. I owe it to the people of Bangladesh to educate myself not only about their cuisine but also about a brief history of the "country of the Bangla people." This is what "Bangladesh" means. Desh refers to the country, while Bangla refers to the people. I highly recommend Dr. Niaz-ji's book beyond any reasonable doubt! Based on the successful recipe I tested, this book is superb! The recipes and contents are great. Ms. Amina Rahman introduced me to Dr. Niaz Zaman (the author of the book) and to the Managing Director at The University Press Limited (UPL)—Ms. Mahrukh Mohiuddin. They both acknowledged and confirmed the various errors and typos I discovered in the courtesy copy of the Bangladeshi Biryani recipe. They further acknowledged that there are other errors and typos ("errata") in the book not yet discovered by me. As far as the buying experience goes, I have a mixed reaction. Mr. Rokib Uddin Ahmed of Rubi Enterprise was friendly and responsive via the internal desertcart Messaging system. I was assured during my pre-sales that my copy of the book would be "brand new." Based on the condition of my copy of the book, it is not "brand new" as I expected. A large, thumb-sized, highly noticeable dent on the bottom back cover of the book was present, along with rubbing along the corners of the book. ***Caveat emptor, if purchasing your copy from Dhaka-based Rubi Enterprise.*** I have a feeling that anyone who purchases the "Used, Like New" condition will more than likely get the copy I returned. If you are OK with that, everyone wins! Ronald N. Tan @ "Tan Can Cook" Vacaville, California USA
