Healing Mantras: Using Sound Affirmations for Personal Power, Creativity, and Healing

This is such a brilliant book. It was recommended to me by someone at a workshop I went to at a festival. Having worked with mantras before and living them I immediately bought a copy. It is easy to read, insightful, inspiring. I have now done 2 forty day disciplines with 2 of the mantras and I feel blessed and humbled by this ancient practice which I love. I got this CD on the strength of the 2 glowing reviews and was not disappointed. Ashley-Farrands certainly knows his stuff and is an excellent teacher. If I have a criticism - and it seems hardly fair - it is that his voice does not have the incisive 'edge' that make mantras chanted by native Indians so hypnotic. You never forget that he is a white American. Of course this is merely a personal preference and should not detract anyone from buying this otherwise excellent CD. I suppose if I were to draw a parallel it would be Lon Milo Duquette's Tarot teaching deck which tells you all you want to know while not necessarily being the deck you would work with day to day.

I love this book - it provides a really interesting insight into the power of sound and its significance to different religions and ethnic groups. The mantras are fun & satisfying to learn and come with background information, explaining the meaning and origin of each. He also gives examples of how they have been used by himself or others & the perceived results. Overall it's a very positive pursuit & gives any reader another tool with which to influence their own life.

I bought the CD thinking it was the book+cd but a bit disappointed that it arrived just the cd, though the contain is really good and great you can learn how to sign the mantras

Being a Yoga and meditation practitioner and also having worked for most of my career with children with sensory impairments, I know how important the use of repetitive sound is for healing. This book confirms my beliefs and is a very informative and readable account of the use of mantras in different cultures, and throughout periods of history. It is practical in its application, and inspires you to start immediately. It empowers you with knowledge (that is sometimes held in mystique) and the tools to try something unique and individual for yourself. It can have astonishing results for those who follow its suggestions and is a catalyst for change. Prepare to be amazed if you take it onboard seriously or be mildly fascinated if you just read it intellectually and don't want to apply it personally.

I love the sound of the voice on this mantra CD, which I think really helps when you want to get into a meditative, centered state. It is very rich and pure. The mantras work for me, and the very act of repeating them creates a wonderful sense of 'being in the now'. He breaks down each mantra into 'bite size' pieces which makes it easy for anyone to follow. This mantra CD is ideal for you if you want to learn how to chant, and if you want to achieve specific things with your chanting (like improved health, abundance etc). I have also read the book which is very interesting.

Really good book. I am new to mantras but this explains them really easily and straight forward. No woo woo. These are not affirmations but real sanskrit mantras. Good book for this total beginner.

I found this book and the cd quite by accident, but what a happy accident that was. As a newcomer to meditation and mantras this book and the accompanying cd were/are absolutely perfect. Easy to follow, immediately accessible IA am absolutely loving both. Hugely recommended to others

Powerful sounds that everyone should know to help our lives . I think the author was very lucky in explaning the uses of the sounds , but this book will be more appreciated and understood if the reader has already had a previous contact with the mantras, have already listened to some of them.

Awesome book for all people that find Mantras interessting or want something to know about them. The delivery was fast and everything looks great.

My number one choice of the 3 books I ordered on mantras. I am especially pleased that there is a chapter on the most powerful of all mantras, seed mantras. I am using two of them for financial and romantic abundance. I think everyone should have a copy of this book.

The CD “Healing Mantras” by Thomas Ashley-Farrand is a series of beautiful mantras, most of which are Hindu. The CD contains twenty-eight tracks, many of which also include brief introductions to each mantra, its history, its significance, its traditional purpose, its translation, and how to pronounce the words, ending with one track consisting solely of meditative instrumental Indian music. In addition to the lyrics of the various chants, the liner notes also includea glossary of terms and a bibliography of additional resources. I had heard this CD for the first time a few years ago when I began attending chanting and meditation retreats led by a friend of mine, Susan Atchison, who is a professional counselor, therapist and spiritual healer who primarily specializes in various forms of spiritual healing from various religions and spiritual traditions. I have attended chanting and meditation retreats with her for the past few years. Before the beginning of the COVID-19 pandemic, and before she decided to move away, her place of business, a place called Healing Soul, was a couple streets down from my house, and each retreat would be once a month, but now, in addition to the group events, she and I do weekly chanting/meditation retreats together over Zoom every Saturday afternoon. While I enjoy listening to all of the chants on this CD, our meditation/chant group only tends to chant certain mantras based on what month and/or season it is. By contrast, the individual sessions I do with Susan consist of different chant/meditation programs every time. This is why, while I have heard some of these chants before, there are many others which are new to me. I have also heard “Om Ayim Saraswatiye” before because the famous American-born Hindu convert and Grammy-nominated chant artist, Krishna Das, has chanted this particular mantra as what is known as a “kirtan” (a call-and-response chant) on his CD, “Kirtan Wallah.” This CD is ideal for chanting, meditation, prayer, stress relief, spiritual healing, or simply just listening to if you just want to relax.
