This was a Christmas gift for family and the kids sat down with it and started playing right away. In fact, they forgot about other presents and were enthralled with the sound and how much fun it was to play. The very second that the kids put it down, one of the adults picked it up and played around with it too. It was probably the most popular gift of the day. I was tickled that it was loved so much. It's impressive to look at too. Very pretty and well crafted. Everyone loved the tone of the instrument and before I left that day, I heard a few songs. It's easy and fun to learn. A great gift!

This is a nice little instrument with a pleasing sound. I bought two of them for Christmas presents. One of them had a lovely sound, but the two highest keys on the ends of the second instrument lacked the resonance that the other instrument had. I am returning the second instrument and ordering another one.

I purchased this as a Christmas gift and the recipient loved it...but I'm glad I opened the box to look at the enclosures. I was able to address the only significant issue this kalimba has with an in person intro lesson and additional info for my friend, but that's not always possible. This one is fewer keys than mine, but it's definitely easier for those with smaller hands to hold and play. I'm a 4'11" woman, so the difference was really noticeable when I held this kalimba. The wood color is rich and warm...very attractive! And at a very reasonable price, too. Minus one star for the enclosures. They are SUPER confusing! I've been playing kalimba for almost a year and couldn't figure out what the company was trying to convey, so they're ZERO help for a total novice. (I read and write legal documents, so I can puzzle out the meaning of almost anything--not these!) Thankfully, the directions that came with my first kalimba were clearer, so I copied those for the gift recipient. I also have a little songbook with pieces I've learned after finding music online, so I was able to make a similar book for my friend, complete with the URLs where I've had the best luck finding music. But I think if I'd given this kalimba as is, with no other explanation and/or to someone who isn't tech savvy enough to go online to find comprehensible tuning info/sheet music/etc.,, the gift would not have been nearly as well received and could have ended up collecting dust on a shelf.

I play guitar and drums, typically playing metal music but that isn't exactly relaxing. I ordered this as a musical stress toy and I love it. It's bigger than I expected but because of that it projects almost all the notes really well. It's a little quiet on the high notes (small bars) but that's natural because it doesn't have space to resonate acoustically or physically, it's nothing against the instrument but wanted to mention it. The wood and design look nice though I don't know how durable it is because I take care of it and don't throw it around. It has extras but I put them in a drawer soon after unboxing the item. The cool thing about it is that really any combination of notes to sounds good to me so I can play purposefully or mindlessly and be entertained. It's also probably good for if you give this to a kid so that instead of their toys making insanely annoying noises, it makes pretty and semi soothing sounds all the time. Of course unless they keep hitting the highest notes but even then it's not so bad. (I just tried it to see) I recommend this thing a million out of ten

This was such a great find, I love it already and it comes with so many useful items. It makes such a cute, yet loud vabrato sound when you play and despite its size its a range of loud and soft notes depending on how you touch the notes. Keep in mind that if you've never played an instrument that requires your fingers to go through it then this might not be the one for you. But in my opinion, and as a first time player, the pain to my thumbs is worth it. 10 outta 10 would recommend. Wether its a string instrument or a wind instrument your fingers are gonna go through it, so if you want to learn how to play an instrument and not have a hard time learning the notes go for it and dont look back!
