Pumpkin Soup: Celebrate 25 years of this timeless classic: 1

Beautiful book, the language is lovely and really emphasises the theme of friendship. This has been a wonderful addition to our autumnal bookshelf and has even inspired me to make pumpkin soup- my little girl really enjoyed it. Beautiful illustrations and a nice calming read - perfect for sofa time or before bed.

This is the delightful story of three unlikely friends; a cat, a squirrel and a duck! All three animals live in a little cabin out in the middle of the forest. They play musical instruments and live off their home-made `Pumpkin Soup'! I purchased this delightful book for its beautiful pictures - all done in `autumnal' colours! This copy comes with a CD of the story which is read by Simon Russell Beale. I'm not one much for Audio Books, but this is well read and quite delightful - including sound effects. There's also a second version on the CD that children can read along with as they are given a sound signal when to turn the page. Very good value.

Love this book. A great fun story of friendship with fantastic illustrations. A lovely Autumn book which children adore and remember.

Got to admit I don't really like this story, can't put my finger on why...however, children seem to love it, my own and ones I have read it to in nurseries. The illustrations are lovely, the animals do seem to have very human expressions, and maybe it is the simplicity with which the moral is told which makes it accessible for preschoolers. Bought for the purpose of making a story sack, containing, alongside the book, a home-made board game to "make" the soup and a collection of soft toys which represent the characters in the book.It is great for introducing soup to some children who aren't keen.

15 years on and still a good read. Started reading this to my daughter when she was three. At five she was beginning to read it herself. But actually knew it by heart if I was buying for a child to read on their own I would say Six . Used to read this story in Preschool and early years . It was always popular.

Always wanted to purchase this book as enjoy the animal characters.

My grandson has always been 'definite' about tastes and textures he likes or loathes in his meals, and we have used various means to encourage him to try new foods. He enjoyed the story of cat, duck, and squirrel and agreed to try the soup himself. Big success on two counts! He now loves eating pumpkin soup and also picked up the importance and value of sharing.

I bought this for my 2.5yr old daughter. It is a lovely story about a cat, a squirrel and a duck who live together in the old white cabin in the pumpkin patch. The story is about compromise and forgiveness and friendship. Beautiful illustrations and one you'll want to pull out year after year.

Great and cozy story about friendship and sharing! My daughter (4 years) loves it and keep asking to read it to her again and again! Illustrations are absolutely beautiful!

Anche qui illustrazioni meravigliose, inglese nel complesso non troppo difficile da comprendere anche per mia figlia di 4 anni, insomma, un altro gioiellino di Helen Cooper (sebbene “A pipkin of pepper” rimanga il mio preferito). La versione con copertina flessibile è 26 x 26 cm).
