The enchanting comic strip that introduced adult readers to the wonderful world of Moomin Tove Jansson is revered around the world as one of the foremost children's authors of the twentieth century for her illustrated chapter books regarding the magical worlds of her creation, the Moomins. The Moomins saw life in many forms but debuted to its biggest audience ever on the pages of the world's largest newspaper, the London Evening News, in 1954. The strip was syndicated in newspapers around the world with millions of readers in forty countries. Moomin Book One is the first volume of Drawn & Quarterly's publishing plan to reprint the entire strip drawn by Jansson before she handed over the reins to her brother Lars in 1960. This is the first time the strip will be published in any form in North America and will deservedly place Jansson among the international cartooning greats of the last century. The Moomins are a tight-knit family-hippo-shaped creatures with easygoing and adventurous outlooks. Jansson's art is pared down and precise, yet able to compose beautiful portraits of ambling creatures in fields of flowers or on rock-strewn beaches that recall Jansson's Nordic roots. The comic strip reached out to adults with its gentle and droll sense of humor. Whimsical but with biting undertones, Jansson's observations of everyday life, including guests who overstay their welcome, modern art, movie stars, and high society, easily caught the attention of an international audience and still resonate today. A great Book
A great book if you are a comic strip fan and also if you are a fan of the Moomins. Tove Jansson was a consummate graphic artist and the succinct and spare use of line and tone makes each strip a lesson in how to tell and illustrate a story with economy and telling details. Interesting and sometimes slightly wacky stories. Not all as straight forward as first seems.

Moomin Heaven
Having grown up on Tintin cartoon strip, reading Moomin in this format has been no problem for my 9 year old. I thought I might have caught Moomin too late for him, but he's been ensconced in Moominland ever since choosing this collection of stories. Great children's stories, beautifully written and illustrated, which feed the young imagination.

For die hard Moomin or Tove Jansson fans only.
The book itself is absolutely beautiful in appearance. And is solidly bound in a hard cover with fabric covered spine. And the cartoon artwork itself is typically Tove Jansson and also very attractive and stylish. However, the story lines and plots differ from the animated version and lack vigour and punch. They certainly don't flow any where near as freely as other cartoon stories. I would say this book series is really only for die hard Tove Jansson and Moomin fans and not all that orientated for younger kids. If you're expecting a cartoon version of the animated series then you'll be disappointed. Otherwise, it's brilliant.

Moomin Comic Strip Book 1
First off I was very impressed when I took this out the packaging - it has a cloth cover which is great, makes the book seems more expensive! Very good quality paper and great drawing. The stories within are very sweet and sometimes amusing. Great introduction to Moominland. There are some odd names for characters but at the same time funny. This is a great present for any adult or child and I will be buying mroe of these.

I have just got into Moomin and figured a book was a good place to start my collection and what a fantastic book it is too! Much bigger and better than i had expected with exquisite drawings to top it all off. Well done Tove! Am already planning to buy Book 2! Best buy in a long time. (arrived very quickly thanks to Amazon Prime aswell :) )

Absolute classic! I am buying them a gift for a friend to start her collection of moomin comics, but couldn't resist a peek through myself. The stories are so absorbing! Oh to be inside Tove Jansson's brain! I have her birthday presents sorted for the next few decades methinks!
