Outstanding router for the $
This router is a great buy that offers excellent "bang for your buck". For such a low price it is hard to find a router of this high a quality that has such an impressive feature set. Setup was easy after power cycling our cable modem, and the internal settings GUI is very intuitive and simple to use. This router supports Beamforming, dual band and has full gigabit ethernet. The range and signal penetration of the wireless N are excellent. (I recommend using that in place of the 5ghz ac when you need more range and penetration and don't mind sacrificing the speed of the 5ghz.) Using the 2.4ghz I can still watch HD YouTube videos while well outside a house with exterior brick walls. Thank you Netgear for providing such an outstanding product at an incredibly fair and honest price. Edit - I'd also like to mention that the NETGEAR email support has been fantastic. There was a web server error having to do with a link they emailed me not working; I reported it to their support team, and they worked on it several days until the problem was fully resolved. After support solved the problem and contacted the appropriate department, that department then emailed me a new link today which worked perfectly. I want to give a big shout-out to Jehan at NETGEAR for handling the case so well.

High quality, cheap basic router wtih some nice features
I bought this router to replace an aging cable modem/wireless router combo that had exceeded its usefulness. Actually - I kept the cable modem/wifi combo and just added this router to one of the ethernet ports and configured the wifi. Before replacing, wireless performance around my 2,300 sqft, split-level home was pretty bad. I actually called the cable company to complain and they had me walk through a few simple steps to confirm that the problem was with my wirelesss, not their cable modem service. In one of the poor performing areas before I upgraded to this router, I was getting 10MB down/1MB up from my wireless devices. After upgrading to this router, I am getting 100Mbps down and 10Mbps up, which is the rate of service that I'm paying for from my cable company. The router has lots of features that I probably won't use. It's great. We're not talking NSA quality security or anything - this is a Netgear device, after all. I'm very pleased, though. Netgear has made is very easy to set up and configure. Even though I'm a seasoned IT pro, I can see how their included "NetGenie" would make it super easy for someone without any experience to quickly get this router up and running. My only caution to non-techies would be to CHANGE THE DEFAULT admin password. The default is "password" and it doesn't prompt you to change it. Don't leave this default password - it's just begging for trouble. I'm totally satisfied with the price and performance of this device. Solved a big problem for me.

This R6230 AC1200 had problems (but a replacement fixed the problems)
This review is for the AC1200, R6230 Router. While setting up, it gave indications that the wireless thru-put internet was iffy. Worked- over and eventually all came together and had internet (wireless and hardwired) to all devices. Some hours into the first day, some of the wireless-connected devices lost internet, but not network. Re-booted everything, changed some cables, and after several hours and lots of foul language from me, everything was back up and functioning. Three days into it, things were iffy off and on, with some devices getting errors/notifications of poor internet connection, but only wireless-connected devices--all wired (ethernet-connected) devices worked perfectly. Did some testing and found a 90% drop-off in internet speed (wireless vs ethernet)--tested with two different computers (one laptop and one desktop) using wireless then ethernet then wireless. Tests run with all devices within 36 inches of the router and used Ookla Speed test, all back-to-back. Huge degradation between ethernet and wi-fi speeds. Completely unacceptable. Returned (today) and Amazon is shipping me a replacement, which should arrive tomorrow. I'll install the new one and report back right here, adjusting my rating as necessary based on the results obtained with the replacement item,. More later...… 9/12/2018....It's now "later", and I received the replacement router , installed and put it into service. Quite a difference from the first one---the installation was smooth, much quicker and with only one small problem which I believe I caused, so really, no problems. Up and running, all functions working, much less difference between wireless and wired speed and over-all, just what I had expected when I originally decided to replace my existing router with this model. I'm now (at least for the moment), quite happy with the device. I have had no problems, no indications of weak or unstable internet (as I had on the first one), so I'm raising my rating from one star to 4 stars, deducting one star based on the first one being bad out of the box. I'm also recommending this as a good buy, price-wise, notwithstanding my initial problems.. If anything changes, I'll be baaaaack!!

Works with Spectrum Internet
Why rent a wifi router from Spectrum when you can own one? This will pay for itself in less than 18 months. Set up is as simple as attaching an ethernet cable (included with Spectrum modem). The router password is pasted via lable on the device. The pre-configured passwords are simple to remember. (unlike the overlysecure/yet impossible to retype passwords provided by some companies.) If you wish to change your password, the registration site makes it simple and self-explanatory. This router accommodates both 5 or 2.4 band wifi devices, such as phones, computers, roku, android boxes, and Alexa., etc. The Netgear router also allows you to directly connect to your devices via ethernet cable for greater security and performance. The ports are gigabit. That might sound like "overkill" if you've been plagued with slow broadband service at your location; but the future is right around the corner. Already, AT&T and Google offer gigabit service in some areas, expanding daily! Soon, Space-X Starlink will cover the globe with high-speed connection, even to the most remote spots on earth. Other broadband companies are also moving in that direction. If you're buying a router, get something that can handle the near future. Personally, I own a combination modem/router for my home use. But, that's because years ago some internet providers had crappy equipment and/or charged a rental fee. If all you need is a router, this is a good choice. Netgear has a solid reputation, and this device is super-easy to install.

Netgear AC1200 nice low priced router
First of all, you need to know that it's best to plug a laptop into this router via an Ethernet cable or a USB cable to do the setup. Once complete, WiFi is all you need forever. But without the hard connection to start things up, you won't know the required credentials to connect your WiFi. That's right. Even the Quick Start guide does not tell you this information. I also like to get into admin and change other things like the IP subnet and SSID so that curious folks do not know automatically what subnet I am using because I don't use the default. That's really easy with this router once you are connected. The Quick Start guid DOES provide the credentials to get into the administrative functions. Be sure to change those credentials immediately so that everyone in the world does not know your admin credentials. After the above is taken care of, everything else is easy peasy. I took the defaults for everything else and those defaults are just fine. I installed this router in my office which is in one end of a 40x90 foot metal building. I have a reasonably strong WiFi signal throughout the building. No problems. I use the WiFi primarily so that I can use my cell phone in the building with WiFi Calling turned on. No problem. I also use it for when I am working on a car or other mechanical project and want to have Youtube videos running on my laptop to assist me. Works great. I recommend this router. At the time I bought it, the price was $59.99 and I consider it a bargain.

Very easy set up using App!
So glad I got this! Very easy set up using the Night Hawk app. Set up via wifi on IPad using app. Must follow instructions including rebooting cable modem before connection. Was easily able to log in using routers default setting and then changed SSID and passwords for both 2ghz and 5 to what I was using before so all my devices would still automatically connect. Probably the easiest wifi router I have had to set up. Great wifi speed and range. The app also shows you all the devices on the network including the IP addresses of each one. You can also rename the devices to better recognize them. Only down side is it take more room on desk than my previous stand up slim old Netgear router which lasted 9 years. Wifi 2 ghz and then the 5 started dropping requiring a router reboot every 3-5 days. This new router seems to have fixed that issue. Thanks Netgear for making another great wifi router!

Fails at being a router; unable to keep connection to internet
We purchased this router in July, looking to change out a very, very old ASUS. Based on the average rating and price, we thought it'd be a great router for our small home. This has not been the case. About a month after our install, we started noticing issues with our 'internet.' We'd drop connection to the internet randomly (different times of the day, different loads), a problem we had not had prior to this router. Thinking that it surely couldn't be the router's issue (it was essentially brand new!), we spent many months going back and forth with our ISP about issues with their connection. After swapping the ISP modem and all cabling, we continued to see connectivity issues. Again- we had no such issues prior to installing this router. The final straw came when we lost connectivity and plugged the modem directly into a laptop, only to find that the modem was behaving exactly as expected and still had internet. We then plugged the modem back into the router...and the router started working again. No power cycles or restarts needed to solve the problem...just unplugging the ethernet cable from the router's WAN port and then replugging it in. Insane. Even worse is that you'll find similar reviews and even a NETGEAR thread from 2011 with similar issues. After months of struggling with this router, we've finally jumped to something else. We've been on our new router for a week and have had _zero_ issues since the change. Additionally, our connection speeds are significantly faster on the new router, as we're now getting our advertised speeds from the ISP (an increase of ~42% on download, and ~1000% on upload compared to what this NETGEAR was allowing us). Very, very disappointed with this product and have lost faith in NETGEAR. The idea that a router has issues maintaining connectivity AND that an issue like that has been floating around since 2011 seems insane.

Stay Connected
I've had this router for four years now, and it still works perfectly! As I work from home and rely on a stable connection, I haven't experienced any issues. It's easy to set up and maintain, making it a reliable choice!

Buen router.
Muy bueno. Excelente rango. Sin problemas con la señal de 5ghz como pasa con otros routers. Buenas opciones de configuración; como el apagar la señal de WiFi por horarios definidos por el usuario o acceder remotamente al router y a los archivos compartidos en el disco duro conectado.
