My old pepper mill had started to break down and was grinding as much of its innards as pepper so it was time to replace it. I was looking for something effective in that it would give me different grinds and wouldn't require too much maintenance. It also needed to be robust as it would be handled by my 4yo grandson. Lastly it had to look good as I wanted something stylish to grace the table. I had shopped around but hadn't found many that fit all these criteria. However I saw the Kitchen Wolfe products and they immediately caught my eye. Now I have them I am more than delighted. The glass portion of the mills is heavy and robust. The ceramic mechanisms for grinding are smooth and effective and, it's very simple to adjust the coarseness of the grind. They are of a decent size, not too big and not too small so can be stored easily but don't need refilling so frequently. The lids on the tops of the mills can be a little fiddly at first, particularly when you are not used to them being there, however they are certainly useful in that there is very little chance of spilling grains of salt or pepper should the be knocked over. It's a feature I never knew I needed. But most of all, they look good and as simple as that may seem, it pleases me to see them on the table. EDIT: One of my grinder mechanisms developed a problem. I emailed Kitchen Wolfe to find out a cost of replacement and they sent me out a whole new set. Amazing customer service and a great product. I will be happy to purchase from these people again

These were bought to replace a pair of electric mills. Those were huge (because of the batteries) and held very little salt and pepper. These Kitchen Wolfe replacements are the opposite - comparatively, they hold a vast amount of rock salt and peppercorns and are still smaller than the ones they replaced. That isn't to say these are small, they are, I suppose a little 'chunky', but I say that in a good way. They look good on the table and their weigh adds to the feeling of quality. They have adjustable wheels on the grinders that allow you to vary the coarseness of the output. I'm still fiddling to find what I like best. One thing to note is that although the tops seem very wide, the degree of spread that you get when you grind is determined by the width of the grinder inside, not the full width of the top. Having written that, it seems an obvious thing to say, but the wide top does somehow lead you/me to expect it to come out finer over a wider area. I've checked and it is no different than my other mills, so maybe it is just me. There are two clear covers that sit atop each of the mills and keeps the insides clean. This is a good idea and they are easy to put on and off and because of their size, little chance of them getting lost. Overall I am very pleased with my purchase. They have replaced a pair of very high-end electric mills and I don't miss them at all.

For the price I have to say these are excellent quality items. I have in the past owned (on paper/reviews) superior pepper mills (e.g. OXO Good grips) but this outperforms it in many ways. Coverage - the actual coverage from grinding is very wide. A few turns and I've covered my plate Grind Size - although a manual turn and not a notched mechanism, it is really easy to use Design - the lid covers are a great idea and prevent clogging from steaming etc. They also look good on the table as a set Ease of filling - nice wise aperture for pouring in salt/pepper - no spill s on the floor Robust - these feel really solid Size - can hold a huge amount of content - I'd say you'd only need to fill these up every few months Price - you get 2 of these mills for the same price as the OXO Therefore if you're in the market for a good set of mills, then you've found them here. No need to look elsewhere or pay more. ** Update - September 2016 ** Butterfingers! I dropped one of the mills on my tiled floor and unfortunately it shattered. Without hesitation went back to my Amazon order history and re-ordered immediately.

Four stars because everything I have seen so far I think is great, but I'm not in a position yet to comment on the longevity. I'm a fan of the way they look, they have a very large capacity, and the grind is excellent. You do get a lot of salt/pepper coming out, but I've found a big problem with other mills with not really getting a lot out per turn. In short, I really like these and they feel sturdy so I have good expectations for them lasting!

I’m usually the kind of person who sticks with things that “work best”, tried and tested, old school kinda guy. So with salt and pepper shakers I’d usually of said the old style twist top wooden carved/shaped grinders are the best... BUT these are honestly better in my opinion! They’re a good looking product, strong and durable, modern design but not over complicated or gimmicky and most importantly work great! Grind into a nice course powder without being too course and are also fine enough if you only like a dash/sprinkle. We had one break after having it for over a year, it was strange how it managed to completely shear off the grinding mechanism somehow... but Kitchen Wolfe sent us out a replacement which arrived in two days and here we are again... with two beautiful salt and pepper grinders. I had purchased a very well known brand of salt & pepper mills a few years ago, which came with a lifetime guarantee. They left salt and pepper all over my work surface/table, the plastic discoloured and the grinding mechanism couldn't cope with himalayan salt, so I thought I'd give these Kitchen Wolfe grinders a try. They are BRILLIANT! They grind himalayan salt and harder peppercorns with ease and because the grinder sits on the lid, there's no mess to clean up on the worktop. The lid on top of the grinder is also useful, for example if I need to use a teaspoon of salt in a recipe I leave the lid on whilst I grind the salt so I can easily see how much I've ground. The glass won't discolour and is easy to keep clean. All in all, very happy with these stylish and functional spice mills!

I have been struggling for months to find decent S&P mills. Whilst I looking for another brand I came across The Kitchen Wolf set and after reading the reviews decided to order them. Reluctantly I tried these out upon arrival, and cannot speak too highly of them. The two mills are good and sturdy. They are adjustable, so you can choose how coarse you want your salt and pepper. The top comes off for an easy fill, no metal shaft to make things awkward, they stand upright so the table is not covered in salt afterwards. They have a smart plastic cap to keep the salt dry when not in use, and their lovely design will look good on any table. Compared to the money I've spent on other sets, the cost of these seems incredibly reasonable. This was definitely money well spent, and I would recommend them to anyone.

Delighted with this purchase and the quality of the product. They're a nice chunky fit in the hand and there's plenty of room for the contents, so you don't have to fill them up every week. Glass is also an advantage as you can see when they're starting to run out. But the best bit is the fact they grind from the top, so you don't get lots of rock salt or Black pepper left on your table mat. For someone with OCD like me, that's a winner :-) You can also vary the size of the grind by simply turning a lever on the grinding head - simple and effective. They have a clear Acrylic lid which snaps into place on top of the grinder when not in use. My only slight criticism is that I would have preferred a Black plastic rather than clear acrylic lid as it would have been a neater finish and would hide any loose salt grinds at the top. This however, does not detract from a 5 start recommendation.
