5m/16' Powerlock Tape

This is a 5m/16ft tape with clear markings in metric and imperial units. Each 10cm and 12in marking is in bold red to help with measuring. The tape width is 19mm and has a robust 3 rivet end hook made of metal. The tape case looks like polished chrome metal - but it's not. It's made of plastic and only prolonged use will prove if this is a suitable material for a tool. But it does look and feel nice nonetheless. The size of the tape is about 6.5cm x 6.5cm x 3cm so quite compact and fits comfortably in the hand. The tape action is smooth without much friction. There is a black locking mechanism on the side that is thumb operated and works well. At the back of the case is a metal belt hook which is useful to have. I wanted a tape that could easily be used by one person when measuring long lengths and this Powerlock tape pretty much does that in a domestic DIY environment. The standout as it is known is how far the tape comes out before it collapses under its own weight. The standout for this tape is about 60in or 1.52m. My previous 3m tape could only manage a standout of 25in or 0.63m. So this tape is a definite upgrade in this respect. I have also used the more professional line of tapes like the Fat Max range and this tape compares favorably. This tape is less bulky, lighter and cheaper. So unless you are a professional using tapes all day long the pro quality tapes are not necessary. If you just want a better tape then this Powerlock is recommended.

You can’t go wrong with a Stanley tape measure. Okay, it hasn’t got a case made from metal any more but these tape measures haven’t had metal cases for donkey’s years. It’s a chromed, impact resistant polymer which is much lighter. The shorter the tape measures the smaller the size so don’t splash out on a long one unless you really need it. Buy with confidence.

Arrived promptly. Excellent tape. Difficult for old fingers to get out of the cardboard!! Lighter in weight than my old Stanley tape (1960s). It should last forever.

Packaging & First Impressions: The STANLEY Powerlock Tape with Blade Armor (10m/30ft, Silver) arrived well packaged and sealed, giving a good first impression. Everything looked new and genuine right out of the box, and the instructions were clear and easy to follow. Design & Features: The tape is easy to read, with clear markings and a smooth locking mechanism. The belt clip is handy for carrying it around, and the compact size makes it comfortable to hold and store. Performance: The standout length is impressive for a 10m tape, and the blade lock keeps the tape securely in place during use. The tape retracts smoothly. The Blade Armor coating does seem to offer extra protection against wear and breakage. Build Quality: While the tape measure looks good and performs well, it’s not as solid as I expected for a Stanley product. The case and blade feel a bit lighter and less robust than some other professional-grade tapes I’ve used. It still gets the job done, but if you’re looking for something extremely heavy-duty, this might not fully meet your expectations. Pros: - Well packaged and sealed - Clear, easy-to-read markings - Compact and comfortable to hold - Smooth locking and retraction - Handy belt clip Cons: - Not as solid or heavy-duty as expected - Case and blade feel lighter than some other pro models Overall: The STANLEY Powerlock Tape with Blade Armor is a reliable, well-featured tape measure that’s great for most DIY and professional tasks. Packaging was excellent, and the tape looks and feels new. While it isn’t quite as solid or heavy as I was hoping for, it still offers good durability and accuracy for everyday use. If you want a tape measure with a long standout and useful features, this is a strong choice—just be aware it’s not the most rugged option in the Stanley lineup.

I'm really pleased with this tape measure. It feels sturdy and reliable in the hand. It's easy to read, with clear metric and imperial measurements and smoothly extends and retracts, making it simple to take accurate measurements. The strong return spring, which quickly recoils the blade without any snags. The 5m isn't too big and perfect for everyday tasks around the house or workshop, and it's not too bulky to carry on a tool belt. Although I think I would like a 3m for wood wooding projects, leave the 5m for more building orientated stuff. Grate tape measure, but I have found the locking mechanism to be a bit stiff and difficult to operate at times. It requires a firm push to engage and release, which could be improved for easier one-handed use. You push to lock and aren't quite sure if it's locked or not as it doesn't "click" into place. It kind of feels like it should push further. Despite this minor issue, I still highly recommend it.

Good

I purchased this tape thinking I previously had it when I lost one. But when I arrived I realise it was a shorter length and a bit smaller. At first I was disappointed because i got the wrong one but after I used it at work for a week I soon realised it was the best tape I've owned. These ones are quite solid compared to other plastic alternatives, glides really well, and most importantly has a firm lock on it. The smaller size make it perfect for me as it's easier to hold and fit in my pocket. I'd be buying another if I/when I need one.

I do generally like to pay a little bit more and buy better quality tools, but I made an error of buying myself a cheap own-brand tape measure on the high street, naively thinking that a tape measure is a tape measure. Huge mistake, as that cheap tape measure warped within a week of buying it, so I came on amazon and bought one of these Stanley Powerlock tapes. These have a solid contstruction (metal) and high quality tape, able to survive extension/retraction unlike my other cheap tape measure! My girlfriend's dad also has one of these from a decade ago, and it still works completely fine, despite seeing much usage. Excellent product.

So extremely heavy, if you drop it on your foot or a kids foot 😵‍💫. Not practical at all
