Question 1

my QC20 has got a problem on its left ear, hearing the noise under quiet mode. It's less than a year and bought from here, do you have any solutions?

Accepted Answer

Sounds like a hardware problem. You are lucky it has propped up while you are still under a year. Don't struggle around for answers. Get straight on to Bose directly, armed with your proof of purchase. Tell them you want a replacement product or your money back. And, don't take a no for an answer. Be quick before your warranty runs out very shortly.

Question 2

Should i be able to hear white noise / almost hissing sound when i use these? Don't know if the ones i have are faulty or if this is intentional!

Accepted Answer

Yes, it's there in mine too, it's not even quiet to be honest, but I guess that's just how this technology works. The white inner noise masks the external noises (with great efficiency, I have to add). When I listen to music the white noise is not noticeable, so not an issue. When I'm doing my French lessons on Duolingo, it's more disturbing though. I normally put some music on to mask the white noise while I study. I choose smooth jazz which works as a great, calm, non-distractive background noise for me. Still, I wish if this level of noise-cancelling could be achieved without the hissing somehow.

Question 3

what is the difference between active and acoustic noise cancellation

Accepted Answer

Active noise cancellation (ANC) is the process of using a microphone to monitor environmental noise and creating anti-noise that’s then mixed in with audio playback to cancel noise entering the user’s ear.

The term “noise cancellation” embodies a number of different approaches to eliminating unwanted outside noise in order to enhance the listening experience. With so many terms, such as active noise cancellation, ambient noise cancellation, and adaptive noise cancellation, it can get confusing for an end user or system developer to determine the ideal noise-cancellation technology.

As the use of smartphones, digital assistants, and other devices for music playback move further into the mainstream, audio features like noise cancellation become more important to help ensure higher-quality audio playback and phone calls. With OEMs looking for new ways to differentiate their products and appeal to the discerning consumer, digital headsets that offer compelling noise-cancellation technology stand ready to capitalize.

The purpose of this article is to review some basics of noise cancellation, such as the differences between passive, active, and total noise cancellation, as well as compare the different noise-cancellation architectures including feed-forward, feedback, and hybrid. It will also contrast fixed filters versus the more progressive adaptive noise-cancellation approaches.

Passive Noise Cancellation

Passive noise cancellation (Acoustic) is what the headset itself offers, whether rubber tips in an in-ear design or padding in an over-the-ear design. Very simply, it’s the amount of noise cancellation offered by the physical device, or how well the headset works as an earplug

Question 4

Has anyone used these for a snorer? Need to know these would be good to sleep in and get rid of the sound before spending

Accepted Answer

They help me. I only wear one in ear. The other ear is on my pillow thereby stopping most of the snore sound. The in ear bud stays in all night. I can't sleep on a bud though and my snorer isn't particularly loud as some I have been told of
