Cricket Brownies: Cricket Flour Brownie Mix - Great Source of Natural Protein from Edible Insects - (Made in Portland, Oregon) by Cricket Flours

I'm am avid baker and my chocolate chip cookies are known to friends and family as the best around. I didn't want to mess with my recipe, but have been curious about eating bugs for some time. The results are amazing! The little kids had no idea, the flavor was exactly what they expected. I note a mild nutty flavor. Everything else- texture, ease of baking, measurements- we're all the same as my standard recipe. I'll be baking tons of chocolate chip cricket cookies in the future!

I used this to make oatmeal raisin cookies. I used the cricket flour in place for the 1C and 3/4C flour the recipe called for. They came out really good and a dozen people agreed and couldn't tell there was anything different in them. A few people were afraid there would be whole crickets. But one friend was disappointed there wasn't whole crickets. I could see the cricket flour not working in a recipe that is more to the pure flour taste or something that bakes light like a cake or a cupcake. But zucchini bread and oatmeal cookies seem like a great fit. I am buying another bag because sadly my dog enjoyed more of the cookies then the humans did. I just can't learn my lesson keeping things out of his reach.

We decided to give these a try out of curiosity. It was effortless to make and the result was very tasty. I have read several comments about them tasting exactly like regular brownies. I wouldn't go that far. They do largely taste like a standard instant mix brownie, but I did detect a slight after taste that I could not recognize. It certainly was not enough to be a deal-breaker for us. One of the most important things to realize is that this is not ALL cricket flour. The cricket flour only makes up a very small portion of the total flour content. The best illustration I can give you is that it is like adding a serving of protein powder to a smoothie. One of the biggest complaints I have been seeing is the amount you get. I do understand the frustration, but it is right on the bag. Serving size 44g. For these, that's about a 2" square brownie, at a little under 1/2" thick. (In context, I think most people would consider a normal size brownie to be double that.) Despite your opinion on whether or not that is reasonable, the math is right on the bag and there is no set constant for a serving size. It can be whatever the manufacturer decides is best to sell the product. The serving size would be pretty much the same for a regular brownie if you were trying to keep it to 110 calories per serving.

I was curious about this product and I'm glad I took the plunge! The brownies were easy to make (just add water, vegetable oil and eggs, mix and pour) and by the time they were done, the scent made them extremely easy to eat! I read the previous reviews, expecting some sort of aftertaste but I didn't experience any of that. Honestly, these tasted just like a scratch made brownie. Since I'm the sharing kind, I took these to work (letting everyone at work know what was in them) and everyone loved them. They were squeamish at first about trying something made from bugs but once they got over it, they were pleased with the taste and texture. Maybe next time I'll sprinkle whole crickets and chocolate sauce on top :-D

OK, you got me... Your marketing worked and I admit that it is my own fault for not wholly reading or understanding what I was buying. This product is WHEAT FLOUR WITH CRICKETS IN IT. This is NOT Cricket Powder. I shouldve read the description better... but, this is what they are hoping people do I suspect. Im sure it works fine if thats what youre looking for, but I cant use it.

My husband purchased this flour and has been advocating for cricket flour ever since. I'm hoping the concept will pick up and thecost will come down because it is not a sustainable price. Great product!

I had my students watch a video on alternative protein sources. The kids were pumped and begged me to get some cricket flour so they could taste it. I agreed and ordered this product. I was expecting a regular box sized mix. It clearly states that the package makes 20 servings. I thought, this is a bit pricey, but it will give all of my students a chance to taste it. The the package arrived. There is about a cup and a half of brownie mix. Even after adding the eggs, water, and oil, it will not come close to 20 ACTUAL servings. I will update this after putting the mix together. I intend to measure the mix before and after, and add pictures to show the quantity made. Again, there is no way this is going to make 20 actual servings.

Wow! These are so taste. The family has enjoyed them and we did a blind taste test compared to other regular non cricket brownies and the cricket brownies won! Bonus is all the protein in the cricket brownies.
