are these double sided?

Unfortunately they are not double sided. What I did, I found nice Bible verses and wrote one on the back of each cross. If you're giving these As gifts, write your name and date on the back.

Do you need to buy glue as well?

You do not need glue to attach the diamonds. The base has adhesive under the clear film .. you pull the film back and expose the adhesive when you place the diamonds. I do apply a sealant/clear top coat when my projects are completed. BTW .. these cross kits make up very pretty.
