It cracked, and I still love it because I figured out the dang secret!
So this is the most amazing cutting board ever. But it cracked. So now it’s the two most amazing cutting boards ever, and I’ve learned my lesson. When I bought this, I was terrifically excited. Gorgeous egg grain teak, nicely finished, great durability. I used mineral oil fairly religiously, kept in a spray bottle under the sink, same as I use for soapstone counters, just more frequent. Kept it on my countertop all the time because it was so dang massive I didn’t know where else to put it. And that is the beginning of the drama, and of me learning a thing or two. Every few days, maybe once a week, I would find it had begun to warp, raising up in the middle. “Aha!” I would say to myself, “it’s drying out, I need to oil it more!” and so I would, and it would always thirstily soak up whatever I put on it. The drying cycle was much worse in the winter when the air is very dry here in New England — dry noses, skin, etc. my wife made fun of me for the amount of effort I put in, but I loved this cutting board for everything - meat cleaver, onions, herbs, chopping vegetables, it is a real gorgeous centerpiece and hugely functional if you have the counter space. Imagine my dismay when after 2 years, I got lazy and didn’t oil it for a few weeks and... one night I hear a tremendous CRACKing noise, come downstairs, and after searching for an hour finally find the cutting board has cracked. “Crapola!” I say to myself, “after all that effort!” So finally, I do my research. First I cut the thing into two pieces (luckily the crack was parallel to the short side). It wasn’t that I was oiling it too little, it’s that when I wiped it down I was letting it sit in a small amount of water. No wiping the counter afterwards would ever be enough. Any amount of water trapped underneath would leach in, and when it evaporated would cause the bowing. Enough bowing and it would naturally crack. Simple physics. So now I have two smaller boards which make for a lovely cheese serving tray and a gift for my son in law, and I’ve bought a new one. They don’t bow nearly as much, because I found the secret. Keep it on top of a folded kitchen towel, and pick it up to dry out once every few days! Oil it once every week or two. It drinks up so much less oil now that I keep it on a towel. You can’t beat understanding the physics. And if you doing understand the physics, they will beat you every time. It’s not the cutting board’s fault if it cracks, you (& I) are just not maintaining it right. If you want a cutting board to to be maintenance free & impervious, buy something made of petrochemicals or glass. This is wood. Treat it right, I’m confident it will last a lifetime. It broke and I still love it.

Gorgeous, high quality wood cutting board
Exactly as pictured, this is a high quality butcher block with a gorgeous block pattern. This item is really great for more serious chefs that cook frequently, want something that's going to be easier on their chef's knife, and healthier than plastic. (Nobody wants microplastic in their food.) I haven't had any issues with this cutting board even after a year of ownership. To keep this board from drying out, make sure to apply food-grade mineral oil on occasion. In my opinion, this is a very good price for the size and thickness.

Great looking board
Great size where I can work on anything I need and easy enough to clean and keep looking brand new!

Wonderful and best I have used.
The best cutting board. I have tried so many types, sizes and qualities and this one is the best of all. My knives are not dulled, it sounds solid when cutting and it is so easy to keep clean. I just wipe off with a wet paper towel for veggies and if I use meat I wipe with a soapy paper towel and then go over it with a clean wet on and then dry. Wood is naturally sanitizing for anything in grooves. I oil this once a month now and I have also given it two waxes to build the surface. I bought the large and it is large but I really like it and I have room for it. Wonderful quality. Be sire you buy from the seller of the actual company, Teakhause.

Work of Beauty
This is a thing of beauty! Purchased for my son. The quality and aesthetics are incredible. Working with vendor was a breeze in spite of my ordering the incorrect board originally. Would highly recommend product and vendor

Love it, be careful when washing
Love it, heavy duty. It does take a bit of babying which is to be expected from a wood cutting board. Always wash both sides and let dry upright to prevent warping.

Beautiful cutting board with small visual defects
Beautiful color and build of a cutting board. Really enjoy using it and a huge upgrade from our old plastic cutting board, and great to avoid microplastics we have all been reading about. Seems like it will have a long lifespan as long as I take care of it. I applied some oil upon receiving it because it seemed a little dry already and it cleaned right up. It feels great to cut on and doesn't move at all due to its size and heft. The only major thing that irked me for a board of this price was the fine details of the craftsmanship. The board was not made square at the factory and as the marketing materials show in their photographs. The surrounding edge of my board slopes about half an inch which is a bit of a bummer.

... ago and I want to say that it is BEAUTIFUL. I take very good care of my products
I bought this cutting board 2 months ago and I want to say that it is BEAUTIFUL. I take very good care of my products, especially my kitchen products, as I do a lot of cooking. I cleaned this board with white vinegar and then oiled it quite a bit when I got it. It was so beautiful that I did not want to cut on it and so it has only been cut on one time. I have kept 2 large plastic cutting boards on top of this board on my island in my kitchen the whole time. I went to check it and clean and oil it again and noticed that it is cracked. I do not understand how this could have happened and I cannot just return it and buy a new one as the new price is more that I paid originally. I am very unhappy with this cutting board as it cracked from just sitting on my island.

In love with this board
I hesitated on buying this because of its size (cumbersome to maneuver while cleaning), yet that's also exactly what I was looking for from it - the broad coverage and beautiful piece. It works perfectly, and I oil and wax it regularly to maintain the stunning colours and its hydration (to avoid any cracking and warping). I would say that if you invest in a piece like this, be prepared to care for it regularly - it deserves that and you'll be rewarded for it if so. I read several reviews here to get a sense of what people thought of the board, its composition, and the care, and knew that I was in for a commitment with looking after it but I haven't had a single regret. It's lovely, does its job, and is a beautiful decor piece in the kitchen. I have a process now where I wash it, towel dry it, apply some oil, then wax once absorbed, and flip to do the reverse side and edges. Again, it's a little work but it's worthwhile if you like nice things.

Great board beautiful when oiled
Wonderful board. But there's a smell I assume it's the smell of teak wood!?
