I've owned 7 Reachers over the years, most of them supplied by doctors or hospitals, but I've got to go on record as saying this Sammons Preston has the rest beat. This is the second one of these I've owned. The first one worked so well that I gave it to my roommate here in the rest home because he was constantly dropping things on the floor and I got tired of getting them for him. :-) just kidding. Seriously though, of all the brands I've owned, this brand delivers 100%. It's lightweight, and fits comfortably in the hand. The trigger has enough of a curve to allow even those with arthritic hands grip with ease. None of these reaches are made to handle heavy weights, but using common sense will help you obtain what you want. The higher you reach the harder it is to get a firm grasp on an object. Don't try to get a large can or jar off a top shelf - experiment first and learn what you can/can't do. This Sammons Preston reacher is very sturdy. The Jaws open up 3.15 inches. It has a soft upper pad which is actually superior to the serrated pad, which is hard rubber and doesn't mold itself to the object you're trying to grab. There's no "play" in the claw, unlike every other reacher I've had. That gives me comfort knowing I'll have a good grip on whatever I'm picking up. And, I just checked, I can pick up both a quarter and a penny off the floor on the first try. It has a 1/4" magnet in the tip - compared to only 3/16" on all of the others. To sum it all up, the Sammons Preston Reacher is not only eye candy, but it performs as well as expected, and that is superior to other brands.

I first encountered this perfect invention when my dad was given one after open heart surgery in 1989. He was given it by the cardiac stepdown unit to prevent straining of bending over to pick up dropped items. I still have his original one and it is a Sammons, same as this. I ordered 4 of these, 3 to give to my sisters & a spare for myself. It picks up the tiniest piece of paper easily and I use it many times every day. It will easily pay for itself in a very short amount of time. If you are having surgery of any kind, have back or neck trouble or just have trouble picking things up, do not hesitate to buy this “little friend”.

I got a reacher from Walmart, looked like it would work. It's in the basement as a just in case. This Sammons is the same as was given me when I left hospital rehab after back surgery. It is the perfect length. It helps me pick things up from the floor, reach whatever my body can't, plus helps me get my clothes and socks on, since I still cannot bend well. And it hasn't broken!!

This is my favorite reacher, but the 2 pincher ends wear out just too fast. Then, the only thing, you can use is the magnetic end or just use it to scoop up your clothes. And, even though it is metal, it is not fixable once it’s broke/ worn out. I called & asked about getting it fixed, but was told they couldn’t do it. So, when it’s totally broke, I’ll recycle the metal. To me that’s a big old waste of creating something, that’s no fixable.

Sammons Preston’s reacher is, to me, the standard against which all rehab reachers should be measured. It’s rugged and easy to use, and provides a sure grasp of whatever you pick up. At 26” long, this reacher gives you some extra leverage for picking up things like clothes, and it is long enough for most people to not need to stoop too much when picking up items from the floor or ground. It also has a small magnet in its tip, powerful enough for paperclips and similar items.

Why did you pick this product vs others?: I use this in the hospital It was sturdy, easy to use could grip very small things including a really small pill like a daily aspirin that you drop on the floor You can just grab it and pick it up and it's lightweight and fits easily on a roll later. I have worn it out and I'm buying a replacement but I've had this one for about a year and a quarter. I highly recommend it.

I used one of these in rehab for a fractured hip. Loved it and immediately ordered one for home. Works every time and can pick up heavier items. Great quality.

Best reacher brand you can buy. Used them for 30+ years. Last the longest and don't break as easily as every other kind I've used. Well worth buying a few at a time. Dot them around house, garden.
