How long is the battery life while on the charger? Will the fan continue to work for as long as it's plugged in?

Is it strong in enough to blow sand I need it for my daughters school project?

I tried the fan blowing sugar, and it blew some of the sugar away from the mound at high speed from about 3inches away, but I did not have sand to try the test with.
