How does the Origin control odor?

A urine-diverting trap door sends liquids to a front bottle and keeps solids dry — mixing the two is what causes odor. A quiet 12V fan vents the solids bin continuously.

Do I have to crank it by hand?

No. A push-button electric agitator churns the solids with your composting medium, so there's no handle to turn and no lid to open while it runs.

What power does it need? Will it run on solar?

It runs on 12V DC and draws about 0.48 amps a day for the fan — low enough for a modest solar setup in a van, RV, tiny home or boat.

What composting medium works best?

Coco coir. If it comes as a brick, hydrate it in a separate container first, then fill the solids bin a little over half. Sphagnum peat moss also works. Skip hemp — it's too fine for the agitator.

How many uses before I empty the solids bin?

About 25 to 30 solids uses per load of coco coir. The bin lifts out for disposal, and a fresh load of medium takes a minute to set up.
