strong, smooth operation, and perfect for kayak storage
I installed two RAD Sportz Kayak Hoists side by side in my barn, and they have worked out perfectly. The build quality is excellent. The metal components feel solid, the pulleys operate smoothly, and the straps/harnesses are strong and well made. One of the best parts of this setup is convenience. I’m able to lower the kayaks directly onto my SUV roof rack and raise them back up after use without lifting the full weight of the kayak, which makes loading and storage incredibly easy. The rope length was more than sufficient for my ceiling height, and the locking mechanism holds everything securely once the kayaks are raised. The only reason I’m not giving the instructions high marks is that they could be a little clearer. They’re not terrible, but they aren’t the most straightforward either. That said, a quick online search made installation very easy, and once installed the system works flawlessly. Pros: Strong and well-built hardware Smooth pulley operation Plenty of rope length Secure harness straps Makes lifting and storing kayaks effortless Cons: Instructions could be clearer Overall, this is a great storage solution and an excellent value for the price. If you want to free up floor space and make loading your kayaks easier, these hoists are definitely worth it.

Great quality, very happy!
These are excellent hoists at a great price, way more heavy duty than I expected. We have a very light canoe, and a pretty heavy angler’s kayak that these were purchased for. The hardware is all heavy duty, metal, and good quality. The canoe is easily raised and lowered by one person without even thinking about it. The heavier kayak you have be more careful with if it’s only one person, but the brakes work well and I’m still very confident raising and lowering by myself at 125lbs (me, not the kayak). I’m actually a little shocked that they’re so affordable. 100% recommend. I almost bought a single one of lesser quality at a tag sale for more, so I’m really happy I decided to do some looking around and got these. The instructions, especially the diagrams, made them super straight forward to install.

Yak Kayak Hoist – A Sturdy and Reliable Ceiling Lift
I’ve installed several ceiling-mounted kayak hoists, and the Yak Kayak Hoist is a significant step up from the typical, flimsy bicycle hoists you’ll find online. This hoist is well-designed, with sturdy mounting brackets that make it much easier for a single person to install securely. Unlike other models, the hooks that hold the straps are larger and more secure, preventing them from slipping off—something I’ve seen happen with cheaper alternatives. That said, I’m giving it four stars because the included ropes aren’t long enough for garages with high ceilings and longer kayaks. I’ve needed to replace the ropes with longer ones to get the right functionality. Overall, it’s a great investment if you want a durable, easy-to-use kayak lift that won’t leave you struggling with flimsy parts. Just be prepared to get extra rope if you have a high ceiling or a particularly long kayak.

They work as inteded
I bought these to hoist 2 kayaks in my garage. They take some getting used to when using them, but once you get the hang of them they're easy to use. They're decent quality and fairly easy to install. I used lag screws from the hardware store in place of the screws that came with them. I've had them for almost 2 years now, no complaints.

Works great for bicycles
Most of the bicycle hoists which I could find seemed to be engineered to meet a low price point and not sturdy enough for safely storing bicycles overhead on a 13’ high ceiling. This hoist was designed for kayaks, so it is sturdier than most of the bicycle hoists. It came with two complete hoists, perfect for my 2 bicycle family. I provided the 1x4 lumber screwed to ceiling joists (see photos.) I also purchased marine style rope cleats to safely fasten the ropes to the wall (see photo.) The provided cleats would probably have worked fine, but I installed them next to the marine cleats to hold the excess rope when the bikes are in the uppermost ‘ceiling’ storage position. The cam rope locks work well and seem very secure, but, of course, you should use two rope twists on each cleat for redundant safety - don’t want a falling bike to destroy an expensive car or a human. The bikes are easy to raise and lower - and can also be secured in mid air to do maintenance work without having the bend over or squat. Some reviewers criticized the included rope, but it is certainly more than sturdy enough for bicycles. The j hooks are width adjustable and are also sturdier than the ones provided in typical ‘bicycle’ hoists, and worked very well on the seats and handlebars. In my bicycle application, I did not see any use for the webbed straps provided for holding kayaks, so I threw them in my parts bin for future use. The pulley wheels are nylon/plastic instead of steel. I’ve seen these types of pulley wheels fail on block and tackle equipment, but they were moving enormous loads. I think these nylon pulleys are sturdy enough for the much lesser weight of bicycles. But I would have been happy to pay a few extra bucks for steel - can’t the manufacturer offer steel pulley wheels as an upgrade option? Summary: fair price for two hoists that look great and do the job. I often get compliments on how cool these hoists look in my garage. ‘Nuff said.

A great space saving device!
Our garage has over 10' ceilings and this equipment let me use all that otherwise unused space. I wanted to put our canoe above the garage door and that meant that it needed to almost touch the ceiling. Using hints from another user here I installed two of them side-by-side. It works great. It takes two people to raise and lower but since each is only lifting half it is very easy. All of the hardware was high quality and did its job well. The only complaint is that mounting screw holes were a very tight fit on the 1/4 inch lag bolts so I drilled them out to 5/16 to gain a little wiggle room. I bought two pairs, one pair for the canoe and another pair to hoist a kayak and bicycles. The rope locks seem very secure and have never slipped but since we walk around under the boats I added a safety chain to all of the assemblies. It's probably not needed but adds some peace of mind. With our high ceilings and wide spacing of the hoists the included rope wasn't enough. The included rope seemed kind of cheap so I ordered enough to replace all rope. When I rigged the "better" rope I found that when it was lowered the hoist pulley spun madly until it was hopelessly tangled. The "cheap" rope furnished hung peacefully straight down with no twisting. I eventually found some rope with similar weave to what was furnished and used that on one side of the canoe. For the kayak and bicycles I used the furnished rope.

Good product but did not work for me
I wanted to hang these in a standard 9.5' 2 car garage closed in by drywall. Ideally it was going to slip in above the garage door (not even close) or worst case scenario, out in the open but up far enough up not to be intrusive to a 6' man trying to go about his every day business which includes carrying objects into the house taller than me at times. The unfortunate truth with my scenario is that it was never going to happen. I really underestimated the hang of these. It wasn't until I had purchased and then did the measurements with the hardware/straps in hand that I realized this was never NOT going to be in the way in my garage. I have 13" high 11' long yaks and when combined with the rig/mounting boards hang basically right above my head no matter where I placed these. I felt I did my homework by thumbing through a bunch of reviews and pics to see different setups but what I didn't realize upon close inspection is that a lot of these closed ceiling setups were manipulated ever so slightly to make it work and not always by the manufactured suggested set up for safety. They were missing the ceiling mounting boards or adding carabiners instead of the hook strap setups to shorten the distance which to me is not ideal. Props for ingenuity but maybe not ideal from a safety standpoint and that's a big issue for me with little kids in the house. I did feel the product was of good quality. However, it did not include the proper 3.5" lag screws for the joists the directions recommend. Why do products provide any hardware if you don't provide the proper ones? People will pay for safety and stay loyal to your products if you prove you will provide the necessary items from the get go. I really wanted this to work and spent half of a day trying to come up with a solution that made sense from all angles (safety, practicality, convenience) but in the end it was a lost cause for my 2 car garage that actually houses 2 cars most of the time. Perhaps 2.5+ car garages or open ceilings are the key for most applications. I'd like to see the pictures associated with the ad reflect the actual distances from the ceiling including a sample kayak height so that it would be easier to judge prior to buying. I would recommend this product but make absolutely sure it will work with your situation. I reluctantly had to return this and incurred a significant return shipping charge to do so due to the weight of these.

Easy to use / space saver ¥
Works well. I can pull my Jeep directly under to load my kayak and hang back up when I return. Good space saving option ¥

Doet wat moet
Wel wat verloren ruimte tussen plafond en de locatie van de haken aan de katrollen. De kayak had anders wat hoger kunnen hangen.

Nice product
I used this product to suspend several 50 lb kayaks (1 hoist per kayak) from the ceiling of my garage. The product is sturdy, easy to use and is, I believe, a safe (by which I mean the product is rated for 125 lbs, but is clearly engineered to hold more AND the brake prevents slippage). My only complaint is that the installation instructions were unclear on several important points such as how to string the ropes properly so the brake works and how long to cut the ropes, as such I had to do some rework to get things right. All in all, I recommend the product.
