The Oxford Advanced Learner's Dictionary is the best dictionary in English for students and whoever else. It has plenty of useful comments and the Oxford iWriter helps a lot with compositions. It takes a while to open the electronic version but that might be because of my PC, on which I have installed too many dictionaries ^_^ You will never regret to have bought it unless you never look up any word.

ほぼ5年ごとに改定されているOALDの最新第8版です。第7版と比べると，ちりばめられていた絵や写真は多くが後ろのページにまとめられましたので，文字情報がつまった辞書らしいイメージになりました。定義については劇的な変化はなく，前の版から大きく書き換えられているという感じはありません。細かいところではWhich Word?のところが語彙を区切るのに”・”ではなく”／”になったところがあります。OXFORD WRITING TUTORが加わり，CDをインストールするとジャンルごとにどのようにテキストをまとめていけばよいのかについての情報が学べます。ジャンル分析の成果がわかりやすく活かされています。前の版のCDはVistaではユーザーアカウント制御を無効にしないと動きませんでしたが，今回は大丈夫です。起動が少しもっさりした感じであるのは前の版と変わりませんが，一度起動すればもたつきはありません。LDOCEは第5版でDVDになり情報量も多く，教員向けの資料もたくさん入っていました。それに比べれば500メガを越える程度のOALDのほうが量的には軽量と言えるかもしれません。それでも語彙は英米両方の発音が聞けますので十分だと思われます。CDがあれば辞書そのものは不要になるのでペーパーバックの版を購入する方が多いのかもしれませんが，個人的にはハードカバーの方が気に入っており，そちらを購入しています。次の版が出るであろう5年後までの期間を考えると，表紙が折れたりしないハードカバーの方が差額相応の価値があると思います。
