Question 1

Could this antenna be mounted outside on top of my camper (for brief periods of time)...will it function if it gets rained on?

Accepted Answer

I'm sure you could mount this outside, but it is relatively fragile and I don't believe it is meant to be outside. You could find better options for mounting an outside antenna.

Question 2

Will this work well when oriented vertically rather than horizontally?

Accepted Answer

Hi Grimsal! Well, I had same question and Monarch antenna at window. I could experiment practically. Horizontal or vertical polarization of antenna did not bring recognizable difference, to me. The biggest problem in my experiment were EM interferences from street, cars. I do not have possibility locate antenna high. Any yard up is a key then orientation, then polarization. As you look on antenna geometry, it is dipole constructed from joined squares. Square you can rotate in frontal plane. Although this antenna is omnidirectional, I did realize some signal effectivity changes rotating antenna from right to left. It is logical. Next In theory, radio-retranslation links are polarized vertically, media transmitters horizontally. Monarch will catch what is on your way. Think also about quality of pre-amplifier. Would be very nice to borrow set of diagnostic tools somewhere. You could know your EMS situation. A black box collecting data. That would be a dream catcher.

Question 3

I had to cut off the connector. it doesn't use a standard rg-6 coax connector. what type of connector do i need? why are the cable and wire so thin?

Accepted Answer

As far as I can recall, these antennas don't use standard coax cables. They are much thinner. This and the fact that they can't be detached is one of the reasons why I wouldn't recommend them. It's best to purchase an antenna that provides a coax connector (so that you can choose the type and length of the cable). I can't advise you as to what type of connector this thinner cable uses. It may not even be available. I'm sorry that I can't assist you further.

Question 4

Hi does this prodyuct works in my country quito ecuador? can i use this antenna to watch cable and local channels? thanks

Accepted Answer

This is only good for over the air local channels, doesn't work for cable. It should work anywhere there's broadcasts as long as the signal is strong enough.
