Is this a variable zoom controller?

Yes. It is a smooth variable speed zoom controller as well as switches and pots to control manual/auto focus and manual/auto iris.

Does this work in hc -x2 ?

Mine did not not sure if it was the controller or the camcorder

zoom work with Panasonic UX 90 ??

I have 3 Panasonic AG UX180 this item works very well with them since the only difference between the UX 180 and the UX 90 is XLR audio connection and SDI video connection. Other than that they are the same cameras and I would imagine that this item works with the UX90. If not then you can always return it.
