Can floor desinfectant be used in this or only water?

As I understand the instructions, the onboard tank is for water only, however, that Does not stop you from using the unit to apply a wax, soap, disinfectant, or other hand sprays that you would like to dilute and work with the machine instead of by hand. In my opinion.

Can the battery be removed?

Yes, the battery does remove and replacements are available. Be aware the light goes off when fully charged.
